Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attended an Anzac Day dawn service to honor the thousands of Anzac troops who died in the First World War Gallipoli landings.

On arrival, Prince Harry and Meghan were welcomed by Te Ataraiti Waretini from Ngati Ranana with a traditional hongi. Hongi is the traditional Maori greeting in which two people press their nose and forehead together and share each other's breath.

The Royals, who are known to be conservative, were greeted in this way. Photos show Prince Harry and Meghan Markle get close to Ataraiti to exchange breaths as the hongi requires. Prince Harry has been photographed numerous time in the past receiving a Hongi greeting but this is the first time Meghan is photographed engaging in the traditional Maori welcome.

The Hongi greeting serves a similar purpose to a formal handshake. In the hongi, the ha (or breath of life), is exchanged, according to Wikipedia.
