A group of researchers at the University of Birmingham discovered that Marine Cloud Brightening (MCB), a procedure that primarily involves increasing the amount of cloud cover, could produce a cloud brightening effect to increase the amount of sunlight reflected back into space.

Un grupo de investigadores de la Universidad de Birmingham descubrieron que el aclaramiento de las nubes marinas (Marine Cloud Brightening, MCB), un procedimiento que consiste principalmente en aumentar la cantidad de cobertura de nubes, podría producir un efecto de brillo en la nube para aumentar la cantidad de luz solar reflejada hacia el espacio.

This system works by spraying the atmosphere with small particles or aerosols, which mix with the clouds with the aim of increasing the amount of sunlight that the clouds can reflect back into space, thus preventing the heating of the Earth's surface and compensating the effects of global warming.

Este sistema funciona mediante el rociado de la atmósfera con pequeñas partículas o aerosoles, que se mezclan con las nubes con el objetivo de aumentar la cantidad de luz solar que las nubes pueden reflejar hacia el espacio, evitando así el calentamiento de la superficie terrestre y compensando los efectos del calentamiento global.

To verify its effectiveness, the researchers created an experiment using the injection of aerosols from the eruption of the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii, to study the interactions between these natural aerosols, clouds and the climate, being able to demonstrate that cloud coverage increased relatively up to 50 % during periods of volcanic activity.

Para comprobar su eficacia los investigadores crearon un experimento utilizando la inyección de aerosoles de la erupción del volcán Kilauea en Hawaii, para estudiar las interacciones entre estos aerosoles naturales, las nubes y el clima, pudiendo demostrar que la cobertura de nubes aumentó relativamente hasta un 50% durante los períodos de actividad volcánica.

I want to think that all these experiments are done with exquisite control and applying all possible security measures. If these types of experiments get out of hand, they can have unpredictable consequences. I wouldn't want to have to end up agreeing with everyone who believes that they are really fumigating us.

Quiero pensar que todos estos experimentos se hacen con un exquisito control y aplicando todas las medidas de seguridad posibles, este tipo de experimentos si se nos van de las manos pueden tener consecuencias impredecibles, no quisiera tener que acabar dándoles la razón a todos los que creen que realmente nos están fumigando.
