Now an interdisciplinary group of Singaporean researchers have created the world's smallest light-emitting diode (LED), a diode with a wavelength smaller than that of visible light that was used to build the world's smallest holographic microscope, which could be mounted in our mobile phone.

Ahora un grupo interdisciplinario de investigadores de Singapur han creado el LED (diodo emisor de luz) más pequeño del mundo, un diodo con una longitud de onda más pequeña que la de la luz visible con el que se pudo construir el microscopio holográfico más pequeño del mundo, que podría albergarse en nuestro teléfono móvil.

This technology could be installed in the cameras of mobile phones currently on the market and turn them into high-resolution microscopes, to improve the resolution and to be able to reconstruct and interpret the images collected by the LED, these scientists have designed a specific neural network for this job.

Esta tecnología podría instalarse en las cámaras de los teléfonos móviles existentes actualmente en el mercado y convertirlos en microscopios de alta resolución, para mejorar la resolución y poder reconstruir e interpretar las imágenes recogidas por el LED, estos científicos han diseñado una red neuronal específica para este trabajo.

All this would allow us to convert, in a relatively simple way, the camera of a conventional mobile phone into a holographic microscope of this type, integrating the control electronics and even the image generator on the same chip, thus creating an 'all-in-one' micro-LED, all as a new feature of your smartphone.

It is true that there are already powerful microscopes on the market to which a mobile phone can be attached to take photos or record what we place in the sample holder, but even if they are not very large, they are still cumbersome and are not easy to use in the open field, if the microscope is incorporated into the phone we can use it anywhere.

Es cierto que ya existen en el mercado potentes microscopios a los que se puede acoplar un teléfono móvil para hacer fotos o grabar lo que coloquemos en el porta muestras, pero aunque no sean muy grandes siguen siendo aparatosos y no son fáciles de utilizar en campo abierto, si el microscopio va incorporado al teléfono podremos utilizarlo en cualquier lugar.
