Actually, Christmas is still waiting on the doorstep and it is still a little time until the big fiesta. But Santa Claus has already contacted me today and he brought me a little surprise.

Here in the Far East, far away from home, it is sometimes not so easy to find food that I used to eat back home and which I have learned to love and appreciate in the course of my life. This is especially true when it comes to bread, because good bread like I can find in Germany, is also very rare to find here in Japan.

In the course of time, I have been able to discover and taste some good bread, but the bread offered here is nowhere near the everyday variety in form and taste that I was used to in the past. But that's not only true of Japan, it's also the case for almost the entire rest of the world. As soon as you leave Europe, you wonder what happened to the bread, and sometimes you have to search for a long time to find something you like.

All the greater was my surprise when I was handed half a loaf of rye bread today. Shape, firmness and weight already suggest that someone here seems to know how to bake a good bread. Of course, later I will also perform the proper tasting, but I am quite optimistic that the bread here in front of me will also pass this test.

So it is getting even more homely today, here so far away from home. I am already looking forward to later, when I will enjoy my little gift.

Eigentlich steht Weihnachten ja noch vor der Tür und es ist noch ein klein wenig Zeit bis zur großen Bescherung. Aber bei mir hat sich der Weihnachtsmann bereits heute schon einmal gemeldet und mir eine kleine Überraschung mitgebracht.

Hier in der Ferne ist es manchmal gar nicht so leicht, heimische Lebensmittel, die man im Laufe seines Lebens lieben und schätzen gelernt hat, aufzutreiben. Das merke ich besonders, wenn es um Brot geht, denn gutes Brot wie in der Heimat, gibt es auch hier in Japan nur sehr selten.

Im Laufe der Zeit habe ich zwar ab und zu ganz taugliches Brot entdecken und kosten können, aber an die alltägliche Vielfalt in Form und Geschmack, die ich von früher gewohnt war, kommt das Angebot hier bei weitem nicht heran. Aber das gilt nicht nur für Japan, sondern auch für fast den ganzen Rest der Welt. Sobald man aus Europa hinaus kommt, wundert man sich, was mit dem Brot passiert ist, und man muss teils lange suchen, um etwas ordentliches zu finden.

Um so größer war meine Überraschung, als ich heute ein halbes Roggenschrotbrot überreicht bekommen habe. Form, Härte und Gewicht lassen bereits darauf schließen, dass hier jemand etwas von seinem Handwerk zu verstehen scheint. Später werde ich natürlich auch noch den Geschmackstest machen, aber ich bin da ganz optimistisch, das das gute Brot hier vor mir diesen auch bestehen wird.

So wird es heut wohl noch ein wenig heimelig werden, hier so fern der Heimat. Ich freue mich schon auf später, wenn ich mir mein kleines Geschenk schmecken lassen werde.

一足早いクリスマスプレゼント

まだまだクリスマスではないけど今日はすでにプレゼントをもらいました。サンタさんは今年ちょっと早く来てくれてサプライズだ。

日本には色々な美味しいものがあるけど、ときどきドイツのものも食べたいです。あまり見つけられないから、ドイツのパンを切望します。

だから、今日のプレゼントは結構嬉しいです。本当のライ麦パン！
早速食べてみたら、おいしくて本格的なドイツの味だ。

ついてるラベルは”Deutsches Brot”と言ってます。完全にその通りです！

明日も食べるのが楽しみ！
