Beetle - Macro Photography

This is a macro photograph of a beetle I found in the place I went to buy wood some weeks ago. It is a timber market where varieties of building materials are being sold.

It has just one color but looks shiny under the presence of light. The creatures was struggling to walk when I saw it. Could it be that someone mistakenly stepped on it? Or did it fight with another creature and sustained injuries?

I noticed that one of its back legs was gone and a part of onr of its front leg was gone as well.
