Why is Putin so popular?
President Vladimir Putin has won 76.66 percent of the vote in Russia's newly-elected presidential election. Putin won more votes than the 2012 election. In the last presidential election, Putin received 63.6 percent of the vote. That is, we can say that Putin's popularity in Russia has increased since then. But why Putin's exclusive popularity in Russia?
Russian media has spoken about Sputnik Radio, along with Professor Anuradha Cheney, Center for Russian and Asian Studies at the Jawaharlal Nehru University of India. Some of the interviews published in Sputnik News Dot were given.
Sputnik: We hear many complaints from mainstream media that the election was not transparent. What do you think?
CHENOA: There was bias in the election, I do not think so. Before commenting on how the politics of politics has developed in Russia, it is necessary to know. Although Russia was independent after the collapse of the Soviet Union, its political parties remained weak.
Where democracy is practiced, there are usually many powerful multi-party methods, but in Russia, we did not see it. President Putin and his party have a monopoly effect on others. But it would have been better if Russia had more powerful political parties, but it requires a lot of time. Democracy needs time to develop. So I do not think that anyone can blame Russia or President Putin for this reason.
Sputnik: Why do you think the political parties are so different with each other?
CHENOA: There are many political parties, but it is necessary to really share the democratic culture. Democratic institutions should be institutionalized and should have a belief in the political process. It is not okay to blame everything. Young generation should be attracted to politics. Young people should show the way and protect the creativity and increase political debate.
I think there is a political debate in this country. However, political parties, including cadre, organization, power, and money, have not been structurally organized yet.
Now all countries including Russia are going through economic crisis. So many people are seeking a strong and popular leader in the country.
I personally think that Russia is lucky in this sense, the country's leader is a smart leader like President Putin.
Putin has stabilized Russia, he has re-established Russia as a state. That is why he is so popular in Russia. I think he is a popular leader.
I think Putin has kept his words in recent developments. Although there is dissent in the Russian society. But he himself has given several arguments about the economic policy and Putin's position on the issue of Syria and Ukraine; That was fair and Russian people certainly supported him.
