Welcome to Maribo, a cute fairy tale town in the Danish country!
As I promised here's my post about beautiful Maribo, in Lolland, Denmark, which I found magical! Maybe because it's a very small town (less than 6000 population) and so colorful!
I went for a weekend vacation alone to explore the Danish country, when looking where to spend some time not far away from Copenhagen, since I hadn't seen much of Denmark at the time. I never regretted my choice! :D
Not much into its history, Maribo is a merchant town with its own brewery (not surprising for any city in Denmark!). Maribo's Brewery started as early as 1895. The brewery is now Maribo's second largest employer and part of 'Royal Unibrew' [http://www.royalunibrew.com/], the second largest brewery business in Scandinavia!
Also, its Cathedral (you'll see an interior picture of it) was built on top of the previous church which burned down in 1596.
Fun fact: Post Denmark (the Danish Post Office) has its headquarters in Maribo!
Enjoy the colors and don't forget to smile!

I am danish and have actually been there recently. Note how empty the town looks... this is what is domestically known "udkants-Danmark" (outskirts-Denmark).... the centralization of education and high taxation welfare state, has all but killed the Lolland economy
Yeah, living in Copenhagen I do know the situation in the country, reading the paper and all but to be fair it was empty because I planned it like that: I don't like human presence in my architectural pictures usually so I wait for the right moment. In this case it was a winter Sunday, stores closed, no tourists and all so it's kind of logical to be empty, less than 6000 people... As I say in my post, the Post Office headquarters of the country are still based there though!!!
Fascinating architecture and colour schemes! What an amazing country ( that I have not explored! )
Isn't it?? Glad you like it and thank you! Yes, it should be on your list for sure! :D
I totally agree. I love the large rooftops that are heavily slanted.
