Haud Oan, Daddy's Busy

The heatwave was still with us and the air hung hot and heavy like a velvet skirt around Scotlands waist.

I was in the garden, hanging up yet more washing which the Good Lady seemed to magic up out of nowhere when it was warm like this.

I had been out for a bit of a pub session with my good mate @wisbeech last night and my eyes were wobbly and funny feeling in my skull.

I will just hang these up and then go for a bit of a sit-down.

I thought to myself optimistically.

I was nearly finished hanging up all of the clothes nonsense when the Little Lady came bounding out of the house.

Daddy! Daddy!! Can we play? Can we play a game?

I could see she was really keen and due to a stramashery of reasons I had not had a lot of time to hang with her.

However, I was also fucked with a hangover and had a dilemma, how to play and yet rest?

She was running about the garden like a deranged loon. I called her over.

So you want to play a game?

Yes, Daddy!! YES!!!

She screamed in hangover piercing delight.

I made a thinking face and rubbed my chin.

Have you heard of the game - "Haud oan, Daddy's busy?"
For the hard of Scottish this translates to - Hold on, Daddy is rather busy...

She jumped up and down.

No! NO!!! I have never heard of it! Can we play it?!! PLEASE!!!

I smiled benevolently.

Of course, lass. Right, let's go. Ask me something?

She looked a little confused. Then saw a ball.

Can we play football, Daddy?

I looked at her fondly.

Haud oan, Daddy's busy.

I said, turning my head away.

I could hear her jaw drop in surprise.

Daddy, come on, play with me?

She squeaked.

Haud oan, Daddy's busy.

I couldn't help but smile as I said it.

The Little Lady caught on fast and for the next half an hour asked me an ever more outlandish series of questions. To which, each one, I answerered - Haud oan, Daddy's busy.

By the end, we were both giggling like Spanish bananas.

The Good Lady popped her head out of the kitchen door and watched us for a bit, shaking her head and laughing a bit herself.

Then she called out.

Right Daddy-Bear. Game's over, time to make dinner.

I laughed a giant's laugh and turned to look at the Good Lady square in the eye and bellowed in my best Daddy voice...

Haud oan, Daddy's Busy.

Sounds a lovely game......great fun had by all! ^__^

Cheers!

It really was quite a hoot!! Cheers to you lass!

Greetings @meesterboom,

Added note......

The illustrations you put together are splendid......the layering of time in the first one especially.....just genius. ^__^

All the best!

Cheers!

I can be quite the layer master!! Although I usually source different ones from pixabay and work on top of them!

Cheers lass!

@meesterboom hello dear friend. The heat is not a good companion after a pub night and the hangover is not very good to accompany a girl to play.
Over here everything reverse, the temperature has dropped a lot. we are suffering the winter
I wish you a wonderful night

I bet even your winter is warmer than a Scottish summer!! :0)

Sounds like a marvelous game and one to be used more regularly. They don't understand how busy we are and only have limited amounts of time. Hang up the washing and cooking dinner is a chore too far.

It's my new favourite game. Might even try a variation of it in work! :0)

The ability to make a game up out of nothing, and one that can be faced with a hangover as well, smart!

It was like genius hangover chess!! :0)

Haud Oan, Checkmate!

Hahahaha!! See! It has so many uses!!

Ow man, had I only known this game years ago. 😁

LoL sounds like a great game XD Would have loved more examples of outlandish questions though, I miss those now that I got big kids that ask mostly sensible questions XD (and different philosophical ones that can actually be discussed x_x)

In the case of the good lady calling it to an end well did you regret that later when she was "too busy" for other games? XD

I always regret that!!

I do like the child outlandish questions myself alright a part of me is looking forward to the more grown up ones that can actually be discussed!!

Brilliant, and sweet. Playing always seems very annoying and set firmly a certain way when glancing over my shoulder while doing adult things, but I find once I do get involved it is actually fun. For some reason I never remember that though.

I never remember either until it's started. :0)

And the dog asked you if you were going to become a permanent resident in his house or whether you hoped to be allowed back inside some year soon?
