GOND ART #TRIBAL ART
Gond art is a form of tribal art that is practiced by one of the largest tribes in India.
The Gonds, are the largest Adivasi Community in India and are Dravidians whose origin can be traced to the pre-Aryan era. This art mainly found in Madhya Pradesh and practiced in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhatisgarh, and Odisha as well.
The word Gond comes from Kond, which means green mountains in the Dravidian idiom.
Traditionally this art is been painted on the mud walls of the tribal people's houses. But these days a variety of modern media like acrylic paintings on canvas, ink drawings on paper, silkscreen prints, and animated film, etc is been used for this art form.
This art form is rich in detail, color, mystery, and humor. Gond paintings are popularly drawn during major festivals like Holi, Diwali, etc.
Gond art has become so predominant that the Government of India has stepped in to preserve their art form for future generations to enjoy.
