The story of the process of the birth of butterflies

Did you know that we receive our butterflies while they are still in their chrysalis stage? Once we receive a shipment, specially-trained staff and volunteers process, sort, and pin the chrysalides so they can be hung in our special case. Once in the case, the butterflies are able to emerge from their chrysalis, pump fluid through their wings to straighten them out, and along their wings and bodies to dry properly. After several hours, they’re ready to be released into the Judy Istock Butterfly Haven. Visitors can look into the case when they exit the Butterfly Haven and, if they’re lucky, they can catch the process in action.
