Butterflies in the garden

in #esteem6 years ago

Our nearby botanical garden has a section that they plant with flowers that butterflies like especially well!

It is quite fun just to sit and watch the Monarch butterflies enjoying the flowers.

Liatris, also called Blazing Star, seems to be a particular favorite.

You are so lucky Melinda...........so many butterflies, wow! There is almost non over here. Beautiful shots Dear 🌸💖🌸

It has been years since I have seen one in my yard, and seldom even along the highways. They do love the flowers at the gardens, and it does make me wonder if they are being raised and released there. We did the circle tour around Lake Superior a few years ago and specifically watched for Monarch butterflies and we never saw one the entire trip.

Sounds like a mystery, nevertheless, it is a very positive sign, since Monarch butterflies are threatened species, just like bees. Apparently best way to help them is to plant milkweed. Clearly, you have flowers in your garden, they also like.

We have always had road ditches full of milkweed...these days more and more invasive species ate taking over. Giant hogweed, wild parsnip, garlic mustard and the patches of milkweed are becoming fewer and fewer. My cousin is growing some and promises to plant some of it here. Do what we can, I guess!

I especially liked the second photo. This is a surprisingly interesting angle. It was great to see them together on this flower. Very well they are located on it . Thanks @melinda010100

They kept fluttering around and I must have sat there for a half hour to get them to pose they way I wanted!😀 I'm so glad you like it!
