Ada yang mengatakan bahwa tanaman Gandum berasal dari wilayah subtropis seperti Rusia, Amerika Serikat, sebelah selatan Kanada, bagian utara sampai tengah China, Turki, India, dan Australia dan ada pula yang berpendapat lain. Tanaman gandum masuk ke indonesia pada abad ke XVIII pada masa pemerintahan kolonial Belanda.
