SONGS OF A SUFFERER

Never tag me in the shabby clothes of political colors
I am only a suffer singing his sad notes by
For I am no beneficiary of the many loans they take
And I am not a part of the budgets they draw
Maybe I am for the tax I must painfully pay
And maybe I am for the lie I am shrouded in
I am the sufferer you can hardly see.

Fat fowls they say please the gods in sacrifice Fattened cows are their choicest meat But in this country the lean ones are offered away Do you remember the dark days of greed? Days of horror I have come to call them now When men rose up with guns to flush out corrupt devils Probity, accountability and equity they claimed to bring But only ended corrupt themselves Greed, selfishness and self seekers disguised in patriot robes

It is true power indeed corrupts those who bear her
And absolute power destroys those holding her
Governance is for the faithful and honorable
Politics is not for chickens wishing to grow.

This democracy has shown us all
We have seen how hunger can make a man pick up the gun
Greed for power and want of wealth has staged many coups than heaven knows
It is not in Africa and America alone
For history has mentioned Europe and Asia too
Antiquity has said Australia even
Great leaders have been ousted by demeaning men with nothing to offer than greed
Politics is for the faithful and honorable with brave hearts
Governance is not for fools specialized in lying.

Do you remember those days in opposition?
Our concerns they gathered in desperation
Our troubles they made into pages and chapters captioned manifesto
And our pain they empathized though in reality they never felt
So we voted out incumbency and instituted them
Once in power our concerns they called whining
Our troubles they called nuisance
And when we dared they tagged us liars as though they can't see our lean bodies
Governance is for the patriotic and prudent heart
Politics is not for hungry men seeking food for their flattened bellies.

Do you remember how many times they knock at doors?
Do you remember how many times they played with your children too?
Some cooked banku and some recited us haikus
Were we foolish to listen to them?
Were we wise to let them in?
Only our thumbs will tell in the future to come
Only our choice will best answer this question right
For we no more forget as the politicians think we do
We remember and will remind them of every action they take and make
Politics is not for dogs and fools learning still
Governance is for men ready to serve country with their all.
