《Freaky》 -Death day is very happy, chopping people is more happy
Just look at the title, you can guess that this film is the new work of Christopher Langdon, the director of two happy deathbed movies.
Although the literal translation of the title "freaky" is "eccentric", the sister version does point out the essence of the film and "happy death".
It's easy for Langdon to complete a low-cost surprise horror comedy by opening his mind.
With half of blumhouse's eight ambitious horror films falling apart, "happy hacking" is a big surprise.
The core concept of happy hacking is "change" (Captain Keanu's bad smile).
The permutations you can think of can be found in the same concept movies in the past, whether it's the "hot mom and hot girl" with women changing body, the "women and men changing body", the "two men changing body" with men changing body, and the "game of the brave" series with a large number of high-frequency changing body.
But Langdon, who is full of bad ideas, still finds a new way. What if the story of "change" takes place in the horror world of scream or moonlight?
The wrong way for the soul to enter the wrong home does not make two different people close to each other, let alone any warm life enlightenment.
In the wonderful 24 hours of the film, the two's goal is simple and clear, that is to kill each other.
Millie Kessler (Catherine Newton) is a high school girl who is about to graduate. She is ordinary and ordinary.
The only thing that got her noticed was campus bullying.
Before the real accident, she was already in a state of bad luck.
Her father's death affected her family, and her anxious mother poured too much protection into Millie.
Millie sympathizes with her mother's mood, so she can not even attend the school return day. Her mother's drinking behavior makes her eldest daughter Charlene very dissatisfied. The family composed of three women is in danger of falling into a tense state at any time.
Although Millie doesn't seem to be the girl who would be bullied in the traditional concept (it's stereotyped to look at Newton's classic black history in Miss bird), she does have a weak side.
You can feel her self-confidence and confusion in the face of the future. She even hesitates to say hello to her favorite boy until he leaves.
However, this is not the worst. The serial murderer (Vince Vaughn) who is known as "the butcher of bisford" returns to the town after many years to kill. In one killing, he accidentally gets a mysterious dagger named Dora's blade.
The unfortunate meeting of the two would have been another tragedy, but because they didn't know how to use the dagger correctly, they exchanged bodies. If they didn't change back 24 hours later, they would never have a chance.
Happy chopping chooses a thrilling route full of joy.
Compared with the "groundhog day cycle" in happy Deathday, the main plot of the film is not complicated, or even "brain saving".
However, the director Langdon has shown full sincerity in "chopping people" and "happiness", which is enough to make up for some details that need to be polished.
The opening scene of the film is like a love letter written by the director to the classic slasher film of the 1970s and 1980s.
The scarlet globe logo and nervous soundtrack, together with the frightening legend of "butcher" in the mouth of four teenagers, pull us into the familiar horror film environment.
The man who suddenly appeared in the basement didn't say a word, and rudely inserted a bottle of red wine into the victim's mouth.
After the crisp cracking sound, the fragments of the wine bottle instantly pierced the boy's throat, and the blood and red wine flowed out together. The fragments were like an evil flower bathed in fresh blood, the most naked sensory stimulation.
And the other three also can not escape the devil's hand, fancy death staged one after another, enough brutality.
The screams of the victims and witnesses, and the old masks with the same taste of "Jason" on the faces of the killers all remind us of the unforgettable nights by the crystal lake in Friday the 13th.
Meanwhile, under the dim street lamp, the tall figure with dagger and mask and Millie, which is the classic representation of "Michael miles" in the light of the moon.
As for the scene of ending a family of three women working together to deal with the murderer, it is also the shadow of "Moonlight panic".
As for "happiness", it is not bad.
This is mainly due to Vince Vaughn's wonderful performance. Vince, who played Norman Bates, a famous abnormal killer in the remake of "the thriller" in 1998, surely didn't expect to return to such a role in such a funny and awkward way.
During the change, Vince made a vivid imitation of many of the high school girls' movements. The tense left and right looking forward to the street and the precise arms swinging when crossing the road were really soul attachment.
When these details appear on a bloody man, the joy of breaking through the sky, as long as the right actor, this kind of stem is difficult.
Catherine Newton, the avatar, is a bit more formal than that of Samara Vivan, a plasma professional, but the contrast between the images and the bridge settings of "killing by knife" is addictive.
As another anti kill film for women, the treatment of related topics in "happy people" is more natural and soft than some movies with loud slogans. Compared with gender opposition, the villains who have not finished well in the film are more like a collective display of "campus scum".
One of the best friends of the hostess, gay, said he also let two straight men sell corruption in an unexpected way.
Although the pursuit of the main, but the mother and daughter relationship is still resolved by crisis, a few warm moments are not abrupt, but the so-called emotional crisis and mother-daughter contradiction itself is not serious, in entertainment, the emotional portrayal of the characters seems to be somewhat mediocre.
