"Steemit is so UNFAIR!" I have been hearing a lot of this lately...("Nature is Cruel" - acrylic on canvas painting)
Not to sound like a jerk, but are you kidding me?! Nature is harsh and heartless, cruel and efficient but astoundingly beautiful and full of opportunities!
Where else can you potentially earn for merely creating content?? Anywhere else I have been, you have to invest money to even be seen or heard at all! So, I find this platform very refreshing. I am a tiny little piece of plankton. My vote is worth pennies. All I have is my creative voice. I have brought no upfront investment...no following. I have been a nuisance, posting my blog links on other people's thread-comments (sorry!)...I have asked F4F (REALLY sorry) and I have been shameless and fake...all within a few days of being here. I was so excited by the potential that I wanted a quick fix for my own life, as an artist and creator. I have quickly learned that this place is so much more than that. It is a great environment to explore and learn and build community. It is mostly about profit for many, but the true value , in my opinion, is found in the opportunity to share and express and to listen and offer support to others.
I see a lot of victim mentality....I have experienced it first-hand. I want every post to be seen by everyone. I want to be heard and understood! I deserve it! But I am just too late to the party. Woe is me...if only I had joined months ago, I would be a whale too!! Those whales are so selfish and they only vote for themselves...whaaaaah!!!! (with all do respect, this is what it sounds like when you complain)
To those of you feeling victimized: I feel your pain! ...but, have you considered that these dolphins and whales are not all just rich assholes who only vote for themselves? Perhaps they, too, have worked through feelings of doubt and frustration? Perhaps they have felt invisible and hopeless but decided not to give up, but to improve their lot and keep contributing from their hearts. That they had to work through their own fears and anxieties and have had to learn to improve their content and strategies to become the whales that they are? So what, they have been here longer and have built something and of course you want a piece of the pie, too!
Rather than letting it get you down, let it inspire you! if your content is richer than theirs, make more of it....keep creating and improving. Reflect and adapt! Have patience and vigilance...determination and endurance! Don't give up and don't blame anyone else. You can do it! But not with a shitty attitude.
I love steemit. I am here for the long haul, and I don't care if your vote is worth a penny or a $100. I don't care if all you can offer is a kind comment and maby a follow. I appreciate when anyone cares enough to want to hear from me at all. I will let this guide me. If you are feeling like a victim, then I offer you some tough love! I am here to offer my support and I would say the same exact thing to a dear friend, if I found them sunk in self-pity. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back at it, if it is what you want! Nature is not forgiving. It is harsh and cruel and can seem unfair. But it rewards those that rise to the top and you will never get to the top with a shitty attitude.
Much love and I truly wish you all the best, from my heart. I will get off my soap-box now. I would love to hear from you, too! <3
A lovely illustration and a good point!
No need for self-pity or feeling victimized. We are all fish in this pool and we have got to keep swimming! 😊
Thanks! That is the attitude I am choosing to cultivate :)
yes, you are right... people can't be thankful
Those that embrace challenge and appreciate the opportunity will eventually get where they want...the rest will remain spectators in the grand chessboard of life!
"share and express and to listen and offer support to others." ❤️
This has been my path and I'm super happy :)
:)
Excellent art and post!
Thank You :)
THANK YOU and gorgeous art! It's true. Some people become so ungrateful and it's ridiculous. If you aren't happy with your earnings, send them to someone else who will be thankful. I'm thankful for EVERY PENNY I get on here.
Thank You! Feeling entitled wont earn a thing. I also see people undervaluing themselves and insecure because there are others out there with more practice, and resenting them, instead of aspiring to be their best.
I read your post, "Become a Failure NOW!" and I love your sense of humor! I have followed/upvoted and I am going to go check out the rest of your blog, now :) I love your satire!
I can only say thanks for sharing your art and you tougths!
Good luck and best wishes!...
Thank You! :)
Well expressed, but I disagree with some points.
First of all, time is precious/money. Otherwise other platforms wouldn't offer "free" content.
Secondly, thankfully we evolved beyound survival of the fittest and "cruel nature" with technology, medicine, culture, art, sciences and more. As those are not at all natural.
Lastly, we need to give constructive criticism, not complain. As by giving suggestions and asking others to share ideas everthing improves.
Market is driven by supply and demand otherwise the platform will become obsolete.
I love constructive criticism :) so far as "time is money" ...I agree, I just meant in the context of my post, that I personally used to spend an equal amount of time on other platforms, doing much the same things, but without any return and now that I have switched to steemit for my online social interactions, I am receiving something for the time I put in (however small it might be). I don't feel drained and don't feel like I am just wasting my time eating out of the palm of the FB echo-chamber, and that in itself is more rewarding.
And so far as "survival of the fittest" - I don't consider that a bad thing...in fact, I think we have gotten weaker and less exceptional as a species, with all the advances of a few that have been gifted to us, largely unappreciated/taken for granted. I don't think nature is cruel, because I don't think nature frames things as good vs bad....they simply are what they are. It is us that filter our experiences through the lenses of cruel or kind, fair and unfair. The painting may seem unfair, but that lion has cubs to feed and so it is all about how you choose to look at it.
I really like articles that give ctritism, rathe rthan just whining about how unfair things are. It is the difference between and victim mentality and a victor mentality.
Thanks for your comments, I really enjoyed thinking about these things more :)
I guess you are right: for those who used other platforms a lot, this is at least an upgrade.
Personally I don't use social platforms as much as other people. I used to them to get feedback from other artists that I admire, which is also value.
"Cruel nature" is the reason why there will never be FEZ 2, because the creator was demonized by the game media unjustly. FEZ is my favorite game of all time and I'm sure there are other examples like that. Often artistic creators work better under positive conditions than negative. My anxiety issues of many years were more damaging than helpful to create anything. It is much easier to learn and improve with a calm mind.
The reason there are so many games and so much art is because we don't have to go into the fields to grow our own food or fight off wild animals, or even better, simply die for no reason because of random disease like fever. I had 40 degrees C (maybe more) fever when I was 5, if survival of the fittest was in effect, without medicine probably would have died.
Also we even have laws to protect us from other humans. It is true that the nature needs a better repayment from humans, rather than them killing everything and using up all of the resources. I prefer digital art way more because it is less wasteful, and great for learning. We can also strive to eat less meat, less dairy and reuse items when possible.
Also without technology and internet we wouldn't find out about war crimes, world hunger and try to fix them by at least donating.
Sadly humans who are more cruel and "nature" driven are more likely to not care what they hunt (endangered or not), look for approval of their "pack" and find ways to degrade others just to feel like "alpha" humans. There is no reason to wear or use animal skins for decoration other than "animal instinct" of wanting attention and wanting to spread the "gene" awaringly or not.
We are developed beyond only having to have winner-loser scenarios, there is enough food to feed everyone if we want to. There are already ways to create less pollution.
The reason humans took over in the first place is because of developing intellect and ability to create and grow civilizations. Without those simple ancient pictographs we wouldn't have anything we have today.
great post although i found it late...life truly is not easy and the strong always find their way which is what am doing...creating my way in steemit...
great post...keep it up!
Thanks! I have not had much time for steemit as of late, but baby is sleeping right now... so trying to make up for lost time!
