A Walk To Fight Poverty (for Africa)
Try to envision...
- Why most of us are turning a blind eye to those people in dire need for help and compassion?
- How would you feel if you you'd be given a chance to be a willing hand to a person who needs support?
- What would you do if you can be a light to a family during their most darkest moments?
- Where would you be if there's an opportunity for you to help restore hopes, revive faith, and render unwavering love?
- Who would you be—A person who walk the walk or a person who just talk the talk—in the midst of adversity?
- When would you stand up for someone other than yourself?
Yesterday was such a great experience for me and my brethren. We participated in "INC World Wide Walk to Fight Poverty." Through this, we aim to help more people in Africa who are experiencing extreme poverty.
We had been preparing for this for quite a long time, we made sure that all of us will be able to attend on the said date. You can just imagine how excited we are until the day that we’re waiting for came atlast!
It was a blast, albeit tiring.
But I must tell you—the heat, long lines, having no sleep, hunger and the walk itself was nothing compared to the unfaltering faith, utmost joy, and overwhelming love that we all felt surrounding us.
Having in mind the purpose of the walk—to help the people in the continent in Africa—kept us going, to the extent that we know deep within our core that we will do it again and again and again if needed.
Truly no one became poor by giving, We know that this will not be the end. Our conviction to help, to fight poverty, will be our lifetime resolve. In unity and with love, faith and hope, we will continue to push forward. We will be unstoppable.
All of these for His glory.
Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.—Matthew 22:35-40 New King James Version (NKJV)”

I am not against these kinds of events. It helps in raising awareness which is great. An idea that influences others will go a long way. All kinds of group do this. Sometimes though it makes me think that instead of spending our money in the t shirts and other accessories, why not collect that and send it to the whoever needs charity or help? We spent money in these events no doubt. I am one of those who do the books in our church and seeing the expenses incurred during these events make me think of this. How is this fighting poverty when many cannot even afford the t shirt? They have to loan money just to buy that which is counterproductive. There are those who are willing to pay for it. These maybe given freely but nothing is free.
