Showcase-Sunday: Ghost Ship
For this showcase-sunday I want to bring back a piece I created a while back that was a bit of an accident piece. I'd started this 3D model of a crashed spaceship but never did anything with it, then one day I was just experimenting with some 3D landscapes and thought this ship would work on this desert landscape I'd made.
With this piece I remember I was playing around with photobashing, which is a popular technique in concept art where you mix photography and painting. So I grabbed some photos of old airplane wreckage and incorporated it for the small scale debris in some areas. This next image is the 3D base, and the ones after that are different layers of photobashing and painting.
Ended it with a few color correction touch ups for the final image. For whatever reason, I like to share some of these information pass images as well as the 3D app interface because I like to see these for some reason too.
That's about it for this showcase-sunday, hope you like.

The amount of detail that you've put into the lighting in the surroundings is worthy of an award. I like how the light bounces of some parts of the ship, while the sunlight curves naturally around it, and without the J.J. Abrams lens flare XD
When I first saw your work, it instantly reminded me of a crashed Imperial Star Destroyer (though unfortunately I couldn't exactly remember as to which movie/game this was set in )...
Thanks @zacknorman97! It's been a while since I made this, but I THINK that image was inspiration when I was making it. lol and yes, no AJ flares allowed 😋
It's great to hear that I've found the inspiration for your artpiece...it feels like stumbling upon Lady Mona Lisa after Da Vinci's done painting her :-)
WoW! This is some really quality work. I love it. I wish I had more voting power to give you more!
