Top job on calling it out. I remember upvoting bottymcbotface for the comment on my introduction post and have recently come to realise that it plays into the kind of 'hit rates' that you describe in your video.
Enough $0.01 upvotes certainly adds up over time!
About your friends; in my opinion you can still say they are good people, even if they do some things that you don't agree with - it's a lot like family in that way haha.
I disagree with your view putting "bottymcbotface" into the spamming category. He does a valuable job introducing and giving folks a tip with when they join the platform. If you don't like it, then don't upvote it, remember the choice is always yours. If you think of it as spam, then develop your own system of welcoming and introducing people to the platform. Don't look at what he is making from it, it is at that point because people see value in it
Dude... using a bot to write the same text to every user that joins the platform is the best example of spamming! And giving a .001 "tip" is another way of spam! A lot of people send transfers and in the memo they put a link to a post, just to get noticed. I think yes, that user is one of the top spammers on this platform.
Hey you're welcome to disagree @daudimitch. I didn't accuse it of being spam but I happen to think your evaluation of the value created by those actions is flawed.
There is no need to develop a 'system' - A pretty decent system already exists where real users greet new users.
I don't spend much time welcoming newbies on Steemit any more, I've built connections and so naturally there's less time.
I do, however, spend time in the #help feed to assist newbies & spend time in the chat offering assistance when needed. I do it to help, not in the hopes I'll get an upvote.
If a bot could do that, I'd happily upvote it all day.
I´ve seen this guy that no matter how long his comments are, he always upvote them with 100% (even one liners) and the posts he upvotes gives a 5-10% SP. I got into a discussion with him about it and he upvoted EVERY reply he made. In the end, he didn´t understand the point of no-voting-for-yourself.
I also get mad to people doing that, I want to get into a fight with every one of them but I would get into a war I would probably lose!
The best part? If you or me tell them not to spam, as you say on min 3.40, they will ignore us, because as I said, they are only concerned about themselves... We need a strategy that does not involve flagging to stop this :/
30 min, ?!? You hair is so long now! I agree I hate when they try to be sneaky and like oh hi I upvoted and put their link in there and tell ME to look at it. Don't they know im LOCO @mindhunter No respect for the Queen of Sparta. come to chat soon need to tell you something about yesterday haha
Yeah I find that lame. I mean there is nothing wrong to tell people you followed them once in a while, but also stating why are you following them, kind of like feedback for the user to keep doing what he/she is doing. I do it on like 10% of my follows, even more so when they are small accounts, gives them a deserved boost.
Also liked your comment, please check my profile I think you will like my content, plz give me a follow and I´ll follow back! hahahahahahahaha
lol I don't mind a comment like that, its the ones that actually put the link in and think we are dumb haha I already follow you and will check you out again haahaa
I've started to flag spam comments. We have to make it an unattractive activity. Even if they flag me back most of those doing it will not have enough SP to do real damage
I have been thinking of doing the same myself... maybe they´ll stop? But you might get yourself into a sense-less war with a lot of minnows (imagine that same war for me, being a minnow also)... But i dont see another solution, at least not right now.
If you ever need backup on this crusade against infidels give me a call and I´ll put on the armor. Not ready to lead my own slaying team but I can hop into another one.
That is not a cool move. How about just ignoring? that will make it unattractive. Flags should be reserved for severe violations such as scam, fraud, plagiarism.
Spam comments is a normal human behavior, and it will continue as platform grows. That should be expedited norm from new users. Don't hate, show some love.
With high SP you can do damage @steevc, but the problem is it depletes your voting power considerably. VP that could be given to someone else. We need to find a new solution I think??
Just part of the ecosystem and will never stop so long as Steemit keep growing with new comers joining every day. Simple commenting or spamming is just a way to collect a small share of the curation rewards. If comments does not offer a share of the reward then these type of spamming will not occur.
Thanks for speaking out! Plagiarism is getting out of hand, too. I can ignore the spam comments that happen on my posts, but seems to be getting harder to wade through all of the crap and dump posts from other users to find the genuine content that first attracted me to the Steemit community. I think that's annoying me the most.
Upvoted and followed! :)
I see the same people writing very knowledgeably about every topic under the sun and they get good rewards with a huge following. Are these original articles because they are written flawlessly? I don't thick there is much that can be done about it unless yo can catch them out.
Those articles are copy/pasted from somewhere else, and part of the problem is that genuine users aren't taking the time to check out the content or the user it came from before hitting the upvote button.
it is actually very easy to do a reverse search on text to see if it has been used elsewhere, but it gets harder when the cheaters take an article to Google Translate and change it up. In fact, that's what the @cheetah bot and @steemcleaners are there for.
Plagiarism can be fought, but it's a never-ending battle.
Nice smile

Steemit is indeed like one big school classroom! Everyone mashed together everyday in the same room!

That's what I should've said! Haha, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks it's more than a little spammy.
BookingTeam, now there's the top spammer on the platform. Thousands of rewards from his circle-jerk crew every day:

BANG! Said it in a nutshell Eric. Flagging is not the solution. HF-20 needs to take care of this somehow??
Some people definitely think they deserve more of the reward share for investing than others do.
I am not sure we'll ever get broad community agreement on this issue, either.

Hahaha the Queen of Sparta XD

Your one liners need to hit a 7/10 before a FULL LOAD @road2wisdom! Like for like voting requests can also be seen as spamming you see! Hee-hee!<3
Last I checked I beat you at your own one liner @mindhunter hahaha did you read what I mentioned before?
I read everything you mentioned before ... TWICE!! [Since your so special!] :)
I was about to crack that he was gonna need a haircut or he'd be looking like Ringo, but you beat me to it!
lol, Ringo, is that the real Paul! 😂
Actually it's all about me!

I'm willing to take the chance
If you ever need backup on this crusade against infidels give me a call and I´ll put on the armor. Not ready to lead my own slaying team but I can hop into another one.
I'm not going to wage total war, but I will use my limited power to deal with persistent spammers.
Others will still vote up the spam, so we have to counter that and make it less attractive to do. It's not hate, it's moderation
I've been saving my flags for abusive and hateful posts, but I think I might just join you in your efforts. :)
With high SP you can do damage @steevc, but the problem is it depletes your voting power considerably. VP that could be given to someone else. We need to find a new solution I think??
Flaggin' depletes your voting power considerably?
That's good to know.
BOTTOM $: DON'T DO IT!!!!
Agreed. I suggested having a separate flagging power, because right now, nobody wants to flag and "waste" their power.
Exactly - it's flag free zone at the moment - no one wants to waste their fixed income per day on that crap!
A 1% flag from me can take away a few cents. I could do a lot of those
Ha ha! I think we need a better long term solution than that @steevc ;)
Well this is how Steemit was designed. Users moderate using their SP
Wait till you see today's Daily Dose soon @steevc - love to hear your views on that one! :)

I am in full agreement with you @jazzyfish - lets hope hard fork 20 brings some resolutions! ;)

good post
Constantaniuos???
Is that a Scottish word :-)
Or are you putting these wee gems in to see who actually watches the video before putting in their spammy links?
Constantaneous is classic @mindhunter invention :)
Can I use it? With attribution of course ;-)
No problem. Link me up! We live in such a busy constantaneous 'always on' society nowadays!! Your father must cringe!!
This is like the 5 post I've seen just today about this! Seems spamming is becoming a big issue.
Hopefully something can be implemented to counteract the spamming, is way too many bots here. Almost as many bots as real people.
I don't know too much about these hard forks but perhaps features could be put into HF20 as a good fix to spam?
It is an issue, but I get very few spam comments on my posts. It's probably a bigger problem for more popular people.
Yeh same for me, not much spam. I actually would welcome a little spam for the confidence boost haha.
Nice comment, vote me up ;)
There you go
Voting power depletion is not the way to stop spam! i.e. flagging! We need a new fix.
