Sustainability in Acapulco || Sostenibilidad en Acapulco
La Isla focuses on sustainability. Water, food, solar, community, cryptocurrencies and secure employment. Everyone in this new world has a skill that they can provide and those skills are utilised, and rewarded.
Buenas tardes! :)
In this post, I'll focus on the foods that are growing at La Isla Residences Acapulco making it an absolutely wonderful place to visit, or live.
La Isla is growing a LOT of food now. Food for everyone is the goal.
You might not realise this, but at La Isla, there are many mature trees that are producing food for you right now. Multiple kinds of mangoes, almonds, plums and coconut trees.
The mangoes are everywhere, just look up. Look for the ones that are starting to turn yellow, orange or red. If they are still a bit green, that is ok, just keep them in a moist paper towel for a few days and they will ripen up nicely:
You might have to fight a squirrel for that mango though:
These brown coconuts have a very spongy center that is edible and full of the most delicious coconut water:
These green coconuts have super sweet meat and water:
The almond trees are everywhere:
The pineapples are getting started:
On a balcony, seedlings are growing:
Then the seedlings are transplanted. It amazes me how all of these plants can grow in beach sand! See:
Residents called these things "plums", but to me they look more like cherry tomatoes and taste quite good. A nice snack, while typing up this post!
Currently growing:
Cantaloupes, tomatoes, red/green/yellow bell peppers, lettuce, serrano peppers, jalapenos, habaneros, potatoes, ginger, garlic, kiwi, watermelons, mangoes, avocados, strawberries, purple onions, carrots, grapefruit, starfruit, limes, basil, green beans, radishes, turnips, parsley, green onions, cucumber, zucchini, leeks, celery, and pineapples.
WANTED:
Banana trees, papaya, yellow lemons, oranges, blueberries, grapes (and wine!), cherries, cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, mushrooms, more herbs and LOTS OF COMPOST. If you can donate tierra negra and/or compost, we would greatly appreciate it.
Please contact me if you can assist.
Thank You! :)
