The Meaning Of Linkin Park Lyrics - What I've Done
The personnel of Linkin Park as seen in the What I've Done video clip.
For fans of overseas rock music, the name "Linkin Park" (LP) is certainly not an alien name. Yes, it is the name of the band from the United States (USA), which was first formed in 1996. Not without reason LP can be a band that is famous & loved by many people. This band is famous for being very productive in spawn songs that are loved by the world music audience. As for this occasion, the Republicans want to discuss the meaning of one of his songs entitled "What I've Done" (WID; What Have I Done).
WID is the first song released in 2007 on the album titled "Minutes to Midnight" (Minutes to the Midnight) where the same song also became the official soundtrack of the movie "Transformers". The album's own title takes its inspiration from the Doomsday Clock, a kind of symbolic clock created to alert the world to the dangers of a nuclear war that can erupt at any time. The same album title can also be interpreted as a change that occurred in the LP because in this album, LP did experience significant changes in terms of the flow of music & official logo of the band.
WID song lyrics using words with ambiguous meanings that there are various interpretations about what this song really wants to tell. Some people think this song is no different from other love-themed songs & romance. But if the WID song lyrics are linked to the video clip, it will be known that the song actually wants to tell about the negative deeds of mankind & its impact. Starting from environmental damage, social gap, civil unrest, until the dictatorship & extremism of the faction.

In this farewell
There's no blood
There's no alibi
When a person is required to acknowledge his wrongdoing or to separate from another person (in this farewell), it is commonplace for the person to express his or her greed. Especially for the person who is the focus of storytelling in the song, he hopes that his confession does not cause him to bear the punishment & physical injury (there's no blood). Because when he confesses, he no longer makes alibis and advocates (there's no alibi) so he hopes people can be a little more sympathetic to him.
'Cause I've drawn regret
From the truth
Of a thousand lies
This section would like to express how the figure who became the focus of storytelling in the song to do his mistake so far. By harboring & throwing away his sorrow ('cause I've drawn regret), he makes so many manipulations and lies (thousand lies) to cover up the original motivation & the facts on the truth. If associated with the video clip, the facts can vary. Starting from someone who destroys the environment regardless of the negative impact, someone who likes to waste food & put forward a luxurious lifestyle even though far away there are still people who are troubled, a politician who is willing to oppress his people on the pretext of the stability & glory of the country, & so forth.

So let mercy come
And wash away
What I've done
This section has 2 versions of meaning. The first version, the character wants to convey hope after expressing the confession of sin & unek-uneknya. He hopes the person who hears his confession becomes more sympathetic & shows a little mercy (so let mercy come) that he / she is willing to forgive the character & gives him a chance to correct the negative impact of his bad deeds (wash away what I've done).
The second version of meaning, this section shows that the character is actually talking to himself. So after meditating on his bad deed all this time & regretting it, he hopes that the attitude of compassion that arises in his heart makes him stop continuing his bad deed while trying to repair the damage from his past bad deeds.
I'll face myself
To cross out what I've become
Erase myself
And let go of what I've done
Trailer from the What I've Done video clip
which features a nuclear bomb test.
This section shows how the character tried to challenge himself (face myself) as a form of sincerity if he really regrets his bad deeds & ready to change into a figure with different properties (to cross out what I've become) - in a positive way of course. The next two lines are illustrative if the character wants to "erase" his old personality (erase myself) along with his bad behavior & reputation over the years (and let go of what I've done) to assert that the character is really converted become a better person.
Part II
Put to rest
What you thought of me
While I clean this slate
With the hands of uncertainty
The first 2 lines are a kind of request from the character to others so that he no longer brings about the actions and bad impressions about the character (put to rest what you thought of me), while the next 2 lines show the uncertainty of the character the character has been trying hard to rid himself of the bad traits (while I clean this slate), he is also worried that one day he may be shaken due to get a temptation from the outside & finally hooked repeat bad behavior. Alternatively, the last line can also be interpreted if the character is not sure if his efforts to become a better figure can be accepted & not seen cynical by everyone.

Section III
For what I've done
I start again
And whatever pain may come
Today this ends
I'm forgiving what I've done
This section would like to affirm the strong determination of the character to start a new life (start again) in order to become a better figure. Regardless of all the risks & temptations that can arise to shake his will (whatever pain may come), all his bad habits must stop now (today this ends). The character is also willing to "forgive" his past bad deeds (I'm forgiving what I've done) to prevent him from falling back into his dark life in the past. All for the sake of a better future for him. For others. For the environment. And also for the world.
