ADVICE | How to travel even with little money
Traveling is a basic need of the human being (we need it to function properly), if we do not do it from time to time, we end up completely depressed, bored, tired and even a little lost in life. But not all of us have a private jet and secret accounts in the Cayman Islands with a special reserve just for vacations, most of us mere mortals have a fixed budget. Sadly, not all the desire of the world (or the notebooks we fill ensuring that "we deserve abundance") are going to make that change, and the chances of someone offering to pay in our place are very, very low.
Fortunately, very few things in this life are impossible and with a little effort you can achieve whatever you set out to do. In terms of travel, there are a few things you can do to save and stay within your budget without having to settle for knowing the world through someone else's photos or traveling once each new millennium.
They say that whoever wants to can, and in this case it's definitely true, you're probably going to have to find the middle ground and make a few sacrifices, but that's better than nothing and you'll even force yourself to be a little more Creative, think outside the box and try new things that otherwise you would never know.
These tips will help you travel more without having to steal a bank or scam someone.
- Do a little research: the best you can do when your budget is limited is to research the place you want to travel to, the best season and the most economical way to get there, and what you can not miss once you arrive. Consider that different airlines have different prices, it is a matter of finding the one that best suits what you need (also, traveling in first class is not necessary).
- Use apps and look for several options: there is an app for everything and not take advantage is silly, the apps practically do the work for you and tell you what are the best options for accommodation, transportation and even meals.
- Buy your tickets in advance and make calls: the closer the date of your trip is, the more expensive tickets will be, the best option is to buy your tickets with time to ensure that you will find the best rate.
- Travel light: ok, this does not affect your budget much, unless you go over the limit, but traveling light gives you much more freedom of movement, you can load your suitcase without needing a taxi or rent a car, and it is the best way to be sure that you are carrying only what is necessary.
- Smart accommodation: do not get carried away by the number of stars, hostels can be a good option, but, if they are not your thing, you can always use Air bnb or a similar platform to find good options that fit your budget.
- Have a plan: travel without an idea of what you want to do, especially if your budget is not unlimited, it is not the smartest option, any expert traveler will recommend having at least an idea of what you should do, see, eat, and avoid before reaching a new destination.
- Avoid tourist restaurants and hotspots: there are places that are tourist traps designed to squeeze wallets, the best thing you can do is look for places with good reviews, mainly local, that give you more for your money and do not leave disappointed
- Ask the locals / make a friend: the locals will always have the best recommendations and do not lose anything by asking. Find a locale that looks friendly, and preferably do not hurry, and ask a few questions until you are sure you gave the best recommendations.
- Use the bicycle: move in a car is comfortable, but if you want to avoid unnecessary traffic and expenses, look for other means that allow you to move more easily and also not going to leave your budget in zeros.
Keep these tips in mind when a vacation is urgent, but your bank account will not let you.
