Weekly Chicken Gazette Issue #19🐓
Welcome to this weeks issue of the Gazette. It's been slow here at the “Fuss & Feathers" homestead. No sense in even discussing the egg count this week.
Dare I say another week where ask myself what more can be written about these 8 chickens! I enjoy doing it so it will continue for as long as the girls are here, they are a calming influence in life and provide many moments of amusement.
Blanche,Sweetpea,The Professor, Brownie, Dot, Maryann and Shelly have been enjoying the warm winter here in Florida. A strong cold front will arrive Wednesday which will no doubt put a damper on their outdoor activities!
It’s been a really nice week with lots of extended free ranging. Blue, Brownie and Dot have their new feathers now and they look fresh and shiny.
The 3 amigos-Blue, Brownie and Dot
When I returned from Texas their coop was a mess and has since had a through cleaning. I even bleached the water container.
I did to pick up feed, hay, scratch, but managed to forget their grit.
I wanted to share some vintage chicken art from the 1880s to early 1900s. It’s amazing to see what people were able to do so long ago with art.
We usually eat eggs once a week, usually on Sunday and this weeks recipe is Oven Ham and Cheese Omelette.
6 large eggs
1/4 cup of milk
Some diced ham
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1/4 cup Monterrey Jack Cheese
Beat the eggs, milk, ham and Cheddar cheese in a bowl.
Pour into a greased 9 x 9 inch baking dish.
Sprinkle the Jack cheese over the top.
Cook uncovered in 350 degree oven until omelette is set approx. 40 minutes.
Chicken Fast Fact
Chickens might be the closest living relative of the dinosaurs specifically the Tyrannosaurus Rex. What a scary thought!
Stay tuned to @mother2chicks for next weeks Issue #20
You really only have eggs once a week?
We sell organic free range eggs and eat them several times a day!
This is not our farm, we just onsell them
Those look like some happy chickens!
Too rich for me to eat them every day. I do enjoy how delicious fresh eggs taste. 🐓🐓
Very cute post @mother2chicks - and I'd like to try that recipe - but does it really take 40 mins to set or is that meant to be 4?
Thank you, yes really that long with the cheeses, you might get away with 30.
apparently im not the only one who names our chickens. we have about 13. mostly named after spices and chicken cuisines ;)
I threaten ours and mention the word crockpot and they straighten right up! Right! Lol
we give ours a 48 hour warning before we eat them. since they are free range they can choose to run away and not come back at night to the coop. we actually had one do that once. she was told she was dinner in 48hrs and poof she fled the coop never to be seen again lol... now wife and i make fun and will sneak a post card from here into the coop every now and then that says she is somewhere on a new adventure. she has been to florida and california and foam hinge lol...
Lol.. Real scary thought indeed. Our benign looking sweet friends, related to the Rex? Who ever thought of that? Blanche or The professor? 😉
Relaxing piece as always. Cheers!
Most likely the Professor! Thank you so much once again.
You're welcome dear
Thanks for sharing your weekly post, i plan to check this our regularly. Living in Florida your birds have in made, no frozen combs!
Now that would be funny! I would like to see that. Haha!🐓🐓
Beep! Beep! This humvee will be patrolling by and assisting new veterans, retirees, and military members here on Steem. @shadow3scalpel will help by upvoting posts from a list of members maintained by @chairborne and responding to any questions replied to this comment.
Thanks Mr Beep Beep!
careful dont get fooled by the stolen valor wannabe vet on steemit. im sure you will know when you come across him.
Who are you talking about @fixedbydoc? I see you are a disabled veteran, would you like to be added to our vet's list? I was a medic in the 101st and also starting my life as a homesteader, good to know more people living this lifestyle.
doesn't matter you will surely hear of him eventually if not already. he claims his unit salutes left handed. anyhow sure you can add me if you like. i was a medic in 2/5th fa out of ft sill ok. now i live 100% off grid on my homestead with my wife addie and a bunch of dogs, cats, and chickens :)
I hope I can recognize him. Very funny!🐓🐓
im sure you will...
I think I know who you mean, and if it's the one people are too scared to mention by name, I agree with you! That's not super helpful to @mother2chicks, though. Are you talking about the one who got Hillaried? Because if you are, @mother2chicks needs to know that's not really him on Steemit.
i don't want to mention his name because i dont want it attracting him here or more people getting sucked in by his fraudulent blogs. at first glance he seems fine but then you start realizing he is a scam artist, generally after you have sent him money or donations... his real name is troy...
No way would I try to pull eggs from that last version. Although, who'd have thunk dinosaurs would probably taste like chicken! Or do chickens taste like dinosaur...? There's something to ponder!
Roasted chicken? Ouch.🐓🐓
Yessss!! Little t-rex and velociraptors!!! I can definitely see it hhahaa~!!! Especially when they run at each other with their heads down.
Great job cleaning up for the gals, doesn't it always feel sooooo good to get it all spiffed up, and with a clean water container too. :) :) :) You're such a wonderful Mother2Chicks!
That art was great too. Such happy pictures.
Thanks so much, it's always great to see you! Glad you enjoyed the Gazette and yes the Leghorns do resemble the T-Rex especially when they are FOOD.
How’s you crew doing?
My harem is doing fantastic, thanks for asking.
PS: I did like the view, hahahaa!! But I'm not a perv. Promise!
LMAO!🐓
I look forward to this gazette about chicken. Thank you for keeping it going please. Love for you
Will keep her going as long as people read their silliness. Hugs to you both. 🐓🐓
Love to your chicken family. Love for you
So cool to see the Girls have their feathers back. They're looking gorgeous! 🤗🤗
