Hymn Title: It Is Well With My Soul.

INSPIRATION OF THE HYMN
According to research, it was discovered that Horatio G. Spafford got his inspiration of It Is Well With My Soul from an incident that occured during his lifetime.
Horatio G. Spafford who was a lovely husband with five beautiful children ( a son and four daughters) and also a lawyer by profession lost all he had, within a twinkle of an eye.
The first was the death of his 2years old son and also the damaged of his properties in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.
As a result of the economic downturn of his business in 1873, he planned on traveling with his family to Europe on the SS Ville du Havre, but there was a later change of plan that made him delayed, because of business concerning zoning problems following the Great Chicago Fire which made him sent his family ahead of him, hoping to meet then soon. On the process of crossing the Atlantic Ocean, there was a rapid ship sank after a collision with a sea vessel, the Loch Earn, and his daughters died, but his wife Anne survived it.

Then Spaffords later had three more children. On February 11, 1880, their son, Horatio Goertner Spafford, died at the age of four, of scarlet fever. Their daughters were Bertha Hedges Spafford (born March 24, 1878) and Grace Spafford (born January 18, 1881). Their Presbyterian church regarded their tragedy as divine punishment.

After all he had experienced in hislife time, he was struck by the title and he penned down the lyrics of the hymn "It Is Well With My Soul."

And Lord, haste the day when the faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul.
