A Mind seeking growth - Reach for the impossible

in GEMS5 years ago (edited)

A person's opinion of himself, and his perception of the limits of his possibilities, both influence his actual success. And his mentality is what makes the difference in seeing a cup half full or half empty.

The idea of "seeking growth mindset" against "fixed mindset" was popularized thanks to Stanford psychologist Carol Doyk in her book "Mental: The New Psychology of Success" which outlines her many years of research on the idea that changing our beliefs - even those of small ones - can change our lives Completely. A fixed mindset assumes that everything about us (our intelligence, our creative abilities ... etc) is fixed and cannot be changed, however we wish. People with this kind of mentality do anything to avoid failure, and they focus heavily on appearing smart-knowing everything. So they avoid challenges, question themselves a lot, and give up easily.

Many people with nodules have this mentality (including me - the author of the article says). As a result of the infertility nodes and that fixed mindset, you see them quickly discouraged, and rarely reach the optimal use of their potential.

On the contrary, you see those with a mindset seeking growth, approaching challenges enthusiastically, thirsting to learn, and refusing to surrender. They focus on personal growth, and continuous improvement. As a result, they end up with more success in life.

These mentalities form in us at an early age, and they affect our relationships, both personal and professional. As well as our positions in the face of failure, and our happiness.

Doyk explains this in her book:

For twenty years, my research has shown that your vision of yourself deeply influences the way you conduct your life. It can also determine whether you will become the person you seek to become, and whether you will achieve the things you value. The belief that your advantages are etched in the rock - the fixed mindset - motivates you to try to prove yourself again and again. You assume that you possess a degree of intelligence, and the characteristics of a unique personality, and something of good morals, then you must prove that you have enough of them all.

Thus, every situation calls for proving the intelligence of the fixed mindset, and affirming the strength of their personality or good manners. You see them evaluate each situation: will I succeed or will I fail? Will I look smart or stupid? Will I be accepted or rejected? Will I feel successful or unsuccessful?

There is another mindset that does not see these features as an inevitable destiny that you have to live with, and try to convince yourself and others that you have enough of it, while in fact you have little luck. Those with this mindset see that what you have is nothing but a starting point for development. This growth mindset is based on the belief that your basic characteristics are things that you can develop with your hard work ... Do they believe that anyone can become what they want? Or does anyone possessing the right motivation or education empower him to become Einstein or Beethoven? of course not. But they believe that the limits of one's possibilities are unknown (and unrecognizable), and that it is impossible to anticipate what can be achieved with years of passion, earnestness and training.
