Hello everyone ,
I know it’s has been a while since I made a post on steemit but I’m glad to be back to complete my achievement 3 task.

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?

Plagiarism is the act of presenting a person’s or author’s, language, thoughts or ideas,as your own own original work.or it’s basically the act of claiming ownership of another person’s write up/article.

On steemit when you presents someone else’s post whether with their knowledge or not as your own which is a prohibited, there are numerous websites and applications that checks for plagiarism which professors, and community moderators use, so In case a person is involved in plagiarism his/her post will be flagged and your votes won’t appear. So it’s always good to try and be creative and original.

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM

The types of plagiarism are Direct plagiarism,Mosaic plagiarism, Self plagiarism and Accidental plagiarism I’ll go and explain these types so you’ll get a clear picture of what these terms mean

Self Plagiarism:
As the name indicates , this refers to republishing of ones own work already submitted somewhere in a different community , when a user presents an article perfectly in a different community and gets a lots of rewards and acknowledgment then later in a different community a similar idea is required , the user then goes on to submit the same work because they’re similar and he realized that he did well in the other work, this is known as self plagiarism.

Accidental plagiarism:
Accidental plagiarism is when a person is ignorant of the right citation methods or misstates their source , or by paraphrasing someone’s work using similar words or sentence without attribution sometimes due to inexperience, this is also a form of plagiarism .

Direct plagiarism:
As the name suggests refers to the word-for-word or direct representation of another authors work without citation or attribution, this is wrong and calls for disciplinary sanctions on Steemit .

Mosaic plagiarism:
This refers to paraphrasing someone’s article without citing the source and also use the same language as the author by finding synonyms for his words, which means the same as the original source.

CONSEQUENCES OF PLAGIARISM:

  • One’s work might not be rewarded if caught for plagiarism.
*Plagiarism also reduces or destroys the reputation of a student.
  • Plagiarism in the Steem community can cause * the students to lose votes or a student’s post to be flagged .

How To avoid plagiarism:

  • Be creative and try to create your own contents

  • state the original author of the post in a citation or reference list.

  • Always quote the right sources u use in your work , so always try keep track of them.

  • Always run a plagiarism check on your work before submitting.

CITATION

This is the process of citing the sources of some ideas or language used in your work , that is creating awareness to your reader of some ideas used that aren’t yours.

Three major citation styles used :

  • Modern Language Association (MLA)

  • American Psychological Association (APA)

  • Chicago style which supports two styles: Notes and Bibliography and Author-Date.
