Sticky Rice Dumpling

My sis-in-law once challenged me to make some decent glutinous rice dumplings. So I set out to watch numerous YouTube videos on the subject matter until I was certain I could win the bet.

I went around town until I found a store that sells the dried bamboo leaves and twine to wrap and tie the dumplings. I bought ingredients of dried chestnuts, pork belly, dried shiitake mushrooms, salted duck egg yolks and dried black eye peas as filling for the dumplings.

There was quite a bit of prep work; separately soaking all the dried ingredients, chopping the pork belly into bite size pieces and marinating the meat, The rice, bamboo leaves and string had to be soaked also.

Then came the impossible part. I was unable to properly wrap and tie any dumpling. After numerous attempts and lots of swearing, I gave up trying.

When I finally calmed down, I placed all the ingredients and rice in a large cake tin and steamed the lot until cooked. I lost the bet. My consolation was the sticky rice was tasty and my son enjoyed it.
