Steeming Community | Get to know Gambir Leaf Tea in Pakpak Bharat which has many benefits
You may be more familiar with tea made from the leaves of the tea plant.
However, many herbal teas are made other than tea leaves. One of them is gambir leaf tea.
One area that is popular as a producer of gambier tea is Pakpak Bharat Regency in North Sumatra.
As reported on the website of the Ministry of Agriculture, Agricultural Research and Development Agency, gambier tea is made from the leaves of the gambier plant.
Gambier plants contain high levels of polyphenolic compounds, similar to the compounds found in tea leaves.
These polyphenolic compounds are claimed to have antioxidant properties that are useful in treating diseases or capturing free radicals that form in the body.
In addition, gambier plants are also commonly used as tanners and dyes.Traditionally, the leaves and stems of the young gambier plant are also commonly used to treat wounds, fever, diarrhea, dysentery, headaches, and stomach aches.

The gambier plant is also known to be used as a mouthwash to treat sore throats and infections by fungi and bacteria.
Gambier tea is one of the innovations of processed gambier plants that can be consumed and is believed to have high benefits.
The best gambier leaves to be processed into tea are dark green leaves.
The way of making it must go through two stages, namely processing gambier leaves into dried gambier leaves and making tea from dried gambier leaves.
Gambier leaves that have been harvested must be chopped first and then soaked in cold water for about 120 minutes and drained.
Furthermore, the leaves are dried by drying or using an oven with a temperature of 40 degrees Celsius.
The dried gambier leaves are then processed into tea bags.
Dried gambier leaves are coarsely ground, then put in an airtight container and sprinkled with jasmine flowers for fragrance.
After being left overnight, the jasmine flowers that have withered are then taken and dried and then mixed back into the gambier tea leaf powder.
