PHOTOGRAPHY LANDSCAPE TIPS

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

The quality of the light at sunset or Sunset can be a precious moment for landscape photographers. Not only is the sky color so attractive, but also the low sun angle can provide texture in the landscape. Sunset does offer great potentials or landscape photo opportunities, but it also has its own challenges that you have to overcome in order to maximize the great photo potentials that exist. Here are some tips and approaches that can be done when shooting sunset.

Camera Settings

The obvious question is: "What kind of settings can I use when shooting sunset?". Taking pictures at sunset is actually no different from other landscape photoshoot, the following can be a good starting point:

  • Shooting Mode: Manual
  • ISO: 100
  • Aperture: f / 11 (Depth of Field area, without degrading image quality)
  • Shutter Speed: Adjust to the condition of the sky recorded in the image (accelerate if it appears too bright, and slow if the sky is too dark). White balance: Daylight / Sunny if you shoot using JPEG.

The thing to remember is that camera settings are not a parameter that ensures the success of your sunset photos, here are some things to consider as well:

Exposure

The interesting thing about Sunset is the bright red, pink and orange sky, and not a few InFotography buddies who are tempted to make the sky the Focal Point or Point of Interest, you expose the sky, and make other elements a kind of silhouette. If the photo has a good composition it does not matter, but if not then your photo connoisseurs have nothing but the sky to look at, so they quickly lose interest in your fofo-fofo sunset. One of the advantages of sunset is the golden light that illuminates the area in front of you with long shadows. Photographing the sky and the area can make your landscape photos more interesting. But you will meet the challenge: When the sun is low, the sky will be bright but not on the ground in front of you. This difference in brightness can cause problems to your photos. If the difference is too far, then you will lose the details of the sky or the shadow on the ground
There are several ways to resolve the issue:

  1. Use the Graduated Natural Density (GND) filter.
  2. Take multiple images (one exposes the sky, and one exposes the ground), combine the two photos with image editing software.

Both ways above have its own difficulties include: the emergence of flare from the use of filters or there are images not really identical when taking two pictures (usually caused by the movement).

Composition
When shooting sunset of course you want to also include the sun in the frame dong. If the position of the sun is still relatively high, then the right exposure is quite difficult to obtain. You can wait until the sun goes into the horizon, so you will be easier to get exposure. Another option is not to include the sun in your photo frame. indeed you will lose the "drama" from the sun itself, but you can still get the feel of time or dusk, without difficulty to get the right exposure.

quotedo not pack when the sun has drowned Lots of landscape photographers who rush home when the sun is not visible anymore, try to wait about 10 minutes. Observe the clouds that exist in the sky will change color with the accompaniment of sunlight, this scene would still offer interesting photos is not it ?.
You will need a tripod because the shutter speed you got is not as fast as in the beginning.
