Sumatran tigers that still survive today

A population of only around 400 Sumatran tigers currently remains in blocks of lowland forests, peatlands and mountain rainforests. Most of these areas have experienced forest clearing for agricultural land or plantations so that the habitat of these big cats is decreasing.

Riau province is home to a third of the entire Sumatran tiger population. One of the habitats of this big cat is Bukit Tigapuluh National Park. Based on data compiled by YPKHS partners and TNBT centers in 2017, there were 47 Sumatran tigers living in TNBT. This number has increased since the initial data collection, which was only 35 individuals. This number is considered small compared to other animals because the number is only around tens of individuals. Therefore, the Sumatran tiger has critical status
