World Cup 2018: Four Arab teams for the first time in the World Cup (congratulations)
The 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, with the participation of four Arab teams, is the first time in the history of the finals, after Morocco and Tunisia secured their qualification on Saturday, joining Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
The largest number of Arab teams in a single edition of the World Cup was three, scoring twice: the 1986 World Cup in Mexico (Morocco, Algeria and Iraq) and the 1998 World Cup in France (Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia).
Arab participation in the World Cup was often divided between one team (Egypt in 1934, Morocco 1970, Tunisia 1978, Algeria in 2010 and 2014). Two teams participated in the 1982 World Cup (Kuwait and Algeria), 1990 (Egypt and the UAE) and 1994 Morocco and Saudi Arabia), 2002 (Saudi Arabia and Tunisia) and 2006 (Saudi Arabia and Tunisia).
The following are the most important stations of Arab teams to the World Cup 2018:
Saudi Arabia
On September 5, Saudi Arabia was the first Arab to qualify for the fifth time in its history and first since 2006, after beating Japan 1-0 in the final round of the third round of the Asian qualifiers.
Saudi Arabia had 19 points, second behind Japan in the second Asian group, which also included Australia, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq and Thailand. Saudi Arabia managed to win six wins from 10 games, against a draw and three losses.
Saudi Arabia qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 1994 in the United States, reaching the 16th round. They also participated in the 1998 World Cup (France), 2002 (Korea Republic, Japan) and 2006 (Germany).
Egypt
On October 8, the Egyptian football team achieved a long-awaited achievement for nearly three decades, ensuring that they qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1990.
The Egyptian team beat Congo 2-1 thanks to a penalty in the fifth minute of stoppage time for Liverpool's Englishman Mohamed Salah, turning the military stadium in Borg Al Arab in Alexandria to a red tide celebrating the arrival of the "Pharaohs" World Cup for the third time after 1934 and 1990, That the team came out twice in the first round.
Egypt secured the top five African Group against Uganda, Ghana and the Congo.
Morocco
Morocco won the World Cup for the first time in 20 years and a fifth in their history, beating Côte d'Ivoire 2-0 on November 11 to secure the top of the African Group IV against Côte d'Ivoire, Gabon and Mali.
The Moroccan team needed only a draw to reach the continental competition for the first time since the World Cup in 1998. The best result of Morocco in the World Cup dates back to 1986 when he reached the role of the 16.
Morocco finished top of Group C with 12 points, four points behind Côte d'Ivoire.
Tunisia
Tunisia scored the fifth World Cup in their history and the first since 2006, with a 0-0 home win over Libya on November 11 in the final round of African qualifiers.
The Carthage Eagles will discuss next summer's first round, after their first round of farewells in 1978, 1998, 2002 and 2006.
Tunisia was the top African group with 14 points, ahead of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (13 points), while the group also included Libya and Guinea.
