SURI CUCUMBER

"suri" cucumber is synonymous with the atmosphere of Ramadan. Every year in every month of Ramadan, cucumbers always appear flooded almost every market in Aceh.

This fruit is one of the most sought after fruit of Aceh people to be a fasting break. In Banda Aceh, cucumbers are sold in the range of Rp 10,000 to Rp 15,000 per piece. "Every month of fasting, the eastern market is sold in the market, as a fuel for breaking the fast," said a fruit dealer at Lambaro Market, Aceh Besar, Aris, to Serambi on Thursday (17/5). He claimed to supply cucumber from various districts. Researched from Pidie, Pidie Jaya, North Aceh, Bireuen, Aceh Barat, and Aceh Jaya. Aris then sell back for Rp 10,000 to Rp 15,000 per fruit. "Ramadan this year, the selling price is relatively cheap because the supply of goods quite a lot," he added.

The average seller he mentioned keeps stock cucumber stocks between 500 to 1,000 pieces. While the number of cucumber selling in Lambaro reaches more than 10 people. "So the price in the first week of fasting is falling," said Aris.

In comparison, in Ramadh last year, Aris called the price of cucumber sold between Rp 20,000 to Rp 25,000 per fruit.

Separately, Head of Department of Agriculture and Plantation Aceh, Ir A Hanan MP, explains, cucumber crops into the type of horticultural plants or fruits. This plant is widely planted before the fasting of Ramadan.

According Hanan, cucumber suri has many benefits, both for freshness and increase fitness after a day of fasting. Among the various benefits include digestion, maintaining health, controlling sugar levels, lowering cholesterol, and others. "This crop is cultivated independently by farmers.
