SEC - S8W3: What is your favorite children's story and why?

Children who were born in Indonesia or grew up in Indonesia must be familiar with the very legendary folklore, Malin Kundang. The story and moral message contained in this story remind me of this folk tale.

What is your favorite children's story, why?

Malin Kundang is a folk tale that I admire. It forbade us to devotion to both parents, especially mothers. This story begins when a fisherman's son migrates to a neighboring country and becomes a rich merchant overseas.

The change in his character occurred very drastically when he succeeded in marrying the son of a nobleman. Until one day, his ship sailed to his hometown. The villagers welcomed him enthusiastically. From a distance, the mother ran towards Malin Kundang and hugged him.

You have come home, my son, said Malin Kundang's mother, sobbing. But what happened? Malin Kundang pushed his mother down and laughed, then said you are not my mother. With arrogance, he walked and left his mother who was sobbing.

Then his mother prays to god and seeks justice from him. Not long after, the wind was blowing very fast, and the sailing ship was struck by lightning. Along with this incident, Malin Kundang's body became stiff and turned to stone.

Have children's stories taught you anything, marked you or influenced you in your life?

Folklore Malin Kundang gives a lot of moral messages to always be devoted to both parents who have cared for and raised us with all their heart and love.

If we are successful in the future, never disobedience to both parents, especially mothers. Our religion teaches us that the ease of sustenance will be obtained by those who provide a living for their mother.

How many children's stories do you remember reading? make a list, enumerate them

When I was little, my grandmother was my best storyteller. She always faithfully accompanied me to sleep while telling stories. I have a book of stories of a thousand and one nights. But I don't know where the book is anymore. And what I remember the most until now is the story of Malin Kundang, Amad Ramayang, Putroe Ijoe, and Timun Mas.

If you have children or younger siblings, have you told them a children's story,
which one and why?

I have a younger cousin. Her name is Aisha. She is cute and beautiful. She is also a good listener. I once shared folk tales with her. The story of Malin Kundang is the best choice for her. I chose this story because this story has a good moral message in shaping the character.

I have made my version of a children's story. I told about a scorpion that reciprocated. The moral message that I want to convey from the story is don't get tired of helping. And it doesn't matter who you help. It is because one day, we need the help of others.
