Stress; the Master Teacher of Life

in SpiritWeb5 years ago

People will look at stress in many different ways, on the very first thought, stress means a big culprit of life. But the other way of looking at it is, that when you have too much stress, means you have taken up too much on your shoulders or it can also be that you do not have much of a choice but to take it. Which also means that you are engaged at a higher level in taking up responsibilities and you have a higher purpose. It can be you attending to countless needs of others and you may not be able to shed it off.

Stress can come in many forms, some people are in the capacity to manage it without feeling the pressure and some may feel it as a burden. Like a teacher who has a responsibility of shaping up the children for their best future and for that may devote extra time to them may not feel stressed out as she is enjoying what she is doing thoroughly. Though she's burdened she still will do it joyfully, or a Nurse who is attending to end number of patients day in and out and would hardly have time for her own self, even in a family if someone has the responsibility of managing major things, just like a housewife who needs to manage the home, children, cooking and so many other chores. She may be the first one to get up and last one to sleep with a long list of to-do everyday. She also cannot shut off, probably if she shuts off, the whole functioning of the home for the day will shut down, so she does not have much of choice but to keep going. It is also about with what frame of mind you are handling the situation.
Also there are times when you feel you are everything to everyone and in the bargain you forget to bring a balance for your own self.

Though I see that women take up more responsibilities in life in all areas compared to men, but men are still the one who are more stressed out. This is a different thing all together but just that women can deal with stress better then men.

The other way to look at stress is that it is also one of the master teacher of our life. Stress occurs when we are put through some extreme or hard situations in life. When we were in school, there were times when we had tons of homework and also had to manage the regular flow, when we were able to cope up with it we used to feel great, like an accomplishment. At a job if a particular task had a stringent timeline to complete we would be under lot of pressure but when the task would complete there would be some valuable learnings out of it.

But the biggest thing is one needs to understand that stress is situation based and nothing is forever, nothing is permanent. What feels so stressful in the moment will have no meaning over a period of time, but the lessons it will teach you will stay forever.

A little stress can also be good sometimes, cause then it means that you have challenges to face. When we face challenges it is like a diamond getting polished.
Imagine a life where you would have no goals, no challenges, no aims, all you do is routines. We would stop using our brains, or rather I will say, our brains will junk out.
If everything will just be so standard and mechanical boredom will set into our lives. So a little amount of push, complex circumstances, a little hardship will be good to keep us active physically and mentally.
Yes but at the same time overburden of something for a extended period of time is also not healthy, cause that will start giving out health problems, stressing over circumstances over which you do not have much of control is also not healthy.
E.g. if you have a ailing family member, what you need to do is take care of the person but not stress out, because the person will take time to heal with the treatment and care but if we stress out over it we ourselves may also get sick.

If a situation is long standing, one needs to find a way to get out of it and not keep brooding in it. For e.g. a friend of mine is always overworked at his job, since past 4 years I hear the same thing from him saying, the job is very stressful and he feels burned out completely, my advice to him always is, he should talk to his seniors and give them a clear picture and if he cannot do it then he should quit the job, but neither of this he has done, because the job pays him good salary and he does not want to be in bad books of his senior, where they would think he cannot manage his work. Rather what I see is he is getting bitter and negative. This is no way to deal with a problem. Every problem has a solution.
This type of stress builds up when we work Hard but not Smart.

Also one needs to learn how to de-stress. You may not be able to avoid a situation but learning to de-stress is like getting a breadth of fresh air and rejuvenating yourself. Fuelling up is very important, then it can be in a way most comfortable to you. Like Meditation, long drives, music, reading or whatever that can calm your senses and will help you rejuvenate will help you cope up with the situations effectively

Stress can be our greatest Teacher, Mentor, Friend. It can help us grow and adapt to challenges of life.
