Why Must We Cherish Our Traditional Marriages?
Hello lovely people,
It has become a norm that the youth of today prefer to stick with the new way of doing things including our christian and muslim marriage ceremonies. We tend to only do the official ceremonies without paying homage to our traditional rule of thumb. This is particularly seen in people who travel outside their homeland Ghana and return with foreign norms and traditions.
Our traditional rites also has significant importance. This is because it allows the various family heads and family members to bear witness to the union of two people in love. Without it, our external families would not recognize our marriages and neither will our local communities.
Its importance is usually almost never seen until there is a disagreement in their marriage and divorce has to be instigated. And here is the case whereby our courtrooms do not protect the interest of the lady and children. Most at times, it is even the family heads that see to it that there is proper separation. If they don't recognize the marriage in the first place, what can they do about it?
As such, as young as we are, we are likely to rebel against some of these customs. But I pray nothing of such significance interferes with our marriages while we are here. Otherwise, our hearts will be full of regret for not doing the necessary rites at the right time.
Customs are there for a reason. And we must make it a point to try and uphold them as much as possible. That way, we can reap their full benefits. Thank you so much!!!
