Some common Reasons why You Eyes may be red
Hello guys,
How are you all doing, I am god to come your way with another episode of health lessons that may be beneficial to us all. You never know what you may learn but Hei give it a read.
As an optometrist I’m keen on ocular health most importantly and so for today I want us to take a look at some of the things that may cause your eyes to be red which may not necessarily be much of a bother or something to worry about.
Exhaustion
This is a common phenomenon for many whiles for others it may not happen for them however generally I have encountered several patients who complained that their eyes become red at a certain point in time during the day and after probing and all the examinations you realize that it’s just exhaustion
So yes tiredness may cause you eyes to become red, is your body’s way of telling you to step on the brake pedal, give yourself some well deserved rest before the system starts to shutdown. Our eyes are such wonderful instruments that they reflect everything going on in your system and if you know where and what to look for you are bound to diagnose lots of thing na before they even come out.
Crying
Just as I initially said we are looking at the very common ones and so don’t be like ah this one is simple or obvious because when you have a young child you may panic when you see their eyes red after a long day’s cry. But Hei it is absolutely normal crying causes the vessels on the eye to become engorged hence the redness.
This is even more so when there is pain as a stimuli to the crying. So when your child comes home with redness before you panic take a deep breath and try to probe a little you may notice that it may be one of these common things we have discussed.
Foreign Body to the Eye
This is still a common one although it needs more attention and care and warrants a visit to the clinic nonetheless if you notice that you eyes have become red after perhaps something fell on it and you were able to successfully get it out perhaps using running water or other safe methods discussed previously then please know that this is normal
Yes is absolutely normal, the eye is simply reacting to the foreign object that got on and although it may not be there anymore the reaction had already started and process need to continue to get any other debris out. The excessive tearing does that purpose whiles he vessels engorging makes other safer measure available to fight possible infections etc. And so do not panic but do well to visit the OD to ensure there wasn’t any bruise
Conclusion
Disclaimer: please do note that this writeup is for the purpose of education and not a substitute for professional health care. When I’m doubt always visit your nearby healthcare center
I would also add that whiles these may be common and not necessarily a reason to fear or panic it is warranted you visit your optometrist for comprehensive examination always, you never know, you may just have saved your sight.
