A Butterfly Shot on a Windy Day

This photo was taken on a really windy day on the shore of the Black Sea in Bulgaria. It took me quite a while and quite a lot of patience to manage a decent shot, but I think the time and the effort were worth it.

Ohh, there's hacking involved? =D I learn new things every day about the world of photo

Well, that's a projector lens, not meant to be used on a DSLR so mounting it and giving it the ability to focus is a real challenge with an old vintage lens like that.

Beautiful... Awesome bokeh!

Thank you, I'm glad you like it! :)

Most definitely worth the time and effort! This is a gorgeous capture!

Благодаря :)

That's stunning! It must be hard to capture this when the wind is blowing wildly. The bokeh is Great! No wonder you call yourself bokeholic 😊

Thank you so much for the kind comment, I appreciate it! :)

Taking this in the wind was quite hard but luckily this particular butterfly was not flying away. I think it took me upwards of 50 shots and only one or two were actually usable.

And yes, I really love bokeh, I'm such a bokeholic that I choose the photos I take not only based on the subject available, but on the background. If I can't get any bokeh out of the background I usually skip the shot entirely. My love for bokeh is also the reason for me to be using vintage lenses which lack niceties like automatic focus and, in case of the frankenlens I used here, sometimes even lack aperture control.

Spectacular macro, Marieta! Did you achieve the bokeh in camera?

Thank you! Yes, the bokeh came from the lens I'm using - a Pentacon 80/2.8, you can look it up and check out more photos made with it and all of them have this distinctive type of bokeh. It's an old G.D.R. projector lens that I've hacked to mount on my DSLR, but it's very similar to the Trioplan 100 which is easier to mount and has "niceties" like aperture blades ;) Of course, the Pentacon is much more affordable and I really love the results you can get with it when you get used to it.

You are welcome and thanks for the thorough explanation :) You got me wondering now, will I be able to mount such a lens on my Micro 4/3 camera?

Possibly, I don't know much about the micro 4/3 standard. Keep in mind that mouting something like that is never really straight-forward, but tends to be doable for all kinds of cameras. For instance, I have another projector lens that I've "salvaged" that I haven't yet made mountable. I will, but haven't gotten to it and there are always unique challenges.
