What's leaving Netflix at the end of the March 2021

in #movies3 years ago

The global Netflix library is always changing and although we tend to focus on what is being added while forgetting that there are some really great things that are also being taken away.

A lot of the time these titles leave rather unceremoniously and I kind of wish that Netflix would feature a section on the home page of films and series that are about to leave rather than just one what is brand new. Here are my picks on some things that are leaving Netflix this month and most of the time when this happens, they don't ever come back.

Kung Fu Hustle

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It has a mixture of incredible fights, brilliant comedy, and special effects that are truly mind-blowing. To be honest with you I didn't even know that this amazing film was even on Netflix at all so to hear it is leaving is a bit sad since they didn't really even focus on it being in the library at all. If you haven't seen this one yet, I highly suggest you check it out before the 31st.

Weeds: (almost) All seasons

This show about suburbanite otherwise law-abiding people getting involved in the marijuana game started out strong and then kind of fizzled towards the 4th season where they started to appear to run out of scenarios for the characters to go through. It is a very light-hearted version of Breaking Bad and nowhere near as good. However, it is worth seeing as it is more of a comedy than a serious, ground-breaking drama like Bad was. This is bingeworthy and since all of the 7 seasons that Netflix had (no season 8 for some reason) are leaving in a few weeks so if you are interested, you better get started now!

Taxi Driver

I don't have a great deal of respect for DeNiro these days as it seems he will take on just any old film in order to pay the bills. There was a time when Robert was involved in gritty movies with controversial story mechanics at play. It is argued that this film launched DeNiro into the limelight as prior to that (such as the Godfather part 2) he did have some big(ish) roles but was never really the star. DeNiro's depiction of lonely ex-soldier Travis Bickle is quite chilling and is in my opinion one of his best performances before he ended up being kind of type-cast as mafioso. While you might not want to watch this end-to-end as it is quite old and might not have the wow-factor that our attention spans demand these days, it is really worth traveling back in time nearly 45 years to see DeNiro in his prime.

Conor McGregor: Notorious

Well that didn't stick around for very long now did it? I don't think you have to be a fan of MMA to know who McGregor is because while I wouldn't call myself a fan of the sport per-se, it is impossible to now know at least a bit about this icon of MMA.

It includes camera footage dating back to before anyone knew who Conor was and how he was struggling to make ends meet as a low-level fighter and how he was basically living off of his wife's paychecks while he built his empire. Spoiler: They are still together now and the overall story is pretty touching. This one will also be gone as of 31st of March.

Other films of note that are leaving

  • Ghost Rider - I put this here only because these films, all of them, are terrible in my opinion and showcases how a financially struggling Nick Cage will sign up for just about anything
  • Inception - This is one of the best films ever made in my opinion and also one of the few films that I feel as though DiCaprio was actually appropriate for the role. I doubt there is anyone out there that hasn't already seen this but if you haven't, you should.
  • The Perks of Being a Wallflower - This one wont be for everyone, but every now and then I like a coming-of-age drama film and this one was pretty good.

The clock is a ticking! Get in there before these films leave for good!
