Innovation and Talent in Blockchain will Help Adoption
While regulators have tried to control the growth, capital has continued to flow into many of these Fintech opportunities surrounding Blockchain. Despite the challenges, talent has continued to be attracted to these initiatives given their potential to disrupt traditional markets and even economies. While the economy in general continues to feel the impact of the health crisis, many innovative initiatives are seeing how Blockchain can continue to help in these times. This includes financial markets which have been stressed as of late and have uncertain futures.
The fact that an important regulator like the OCC is adding talent with a mindset of this technology is amazing. It immediately made me think of the long rumored US Coin which could become a reality sooner rather than later considering how markets are moving so quickly to needing more efficient liquidity and capital flows. While it is pure speculation on my part, we also hear about other sovereign nations considering similar monetary changes. This could lead to a very quick adoption process of these assets.
I have always look at this cycle towards cryptocurrencies as the next step in money. Considering that each cycle takes less time to be adopted, it could be only years away. If we think about how quickly online payments and credit cards have taken over their predecessors of cash and checks, Blockchain could be the enabler to make this quicker than expected given the technology and how it has now been proven for almost ten years with Bitcoin. Very exciting times are still ahead!
