Catalonia referendum - Independence referendum - Is this the way you should handle a democratic rights?

Independence referendum can take place if citizen of particular state thinks that they should go for independence. This is their right. Referendum does not guarantee a independence sovereign state. Till now 109 states go for Independence referendum. Among them 31 states voted for independence and 31 states got recognition.

Recently, Iraqi kurds go for Independence referendum to establish a country named Kurdistan. 93% people voted for independence. Though Iraqi central government doesn't approved the referendum and termed it as illegal.

Today Catalonia referendum was supposed to happen. But there is reports of violence. Police closed off almost all polling both. Prime Minister of Spain has told that no referendum has been help today.

We all are talking about democracy and all this ... But what is happening in Catalan is very unfortunate. This is not the way you should handle a democratic process. Let them exercise their democratic rights. I hope everything will be solved peacefully.
