Foreign reviews of First Blood 5: Last Blood are here! , which has been called racist and misogynistic in its tendencies.
The reviews for Last Blood are in and how was the film? Some people also don't seem to understand the character of Rambo or are unaware of the violence in the film. The film currently has a 34% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and critics are unanimous: like the previous sequels, First Blood 5: Last Blood is content to wallow in gory violence and ignore the once heartbreaking story of its protagonist. Nevertheless, here are some of the reviews that have been circulating so far Grace Randolph: Racism and Misogyny ...... If only Stallone could return to working with a talented and exciting new director like Ryan Coogler in 'Quilty'. Randolph also started commenting that the movie was too violent and that it was a Rambo movie.
IndieWire:The depiction of a murderous Mexican crime boss, slave, and white savior is not so palatable in the highly sensitive cultural climate of 2019.
The Reagan-era hero, redesigned for the MAGA era. Sylvester Stallone returns as a warrior in a tale of revenge that is unparalleled in its toxicity and Trumpian style.
The Guardian: A comic fantasy of an insecure American border, this film, co-written by Sylvester Stallone, imagines the demure young woman whose face is cut by an assailant but who is left on the battlefield in a revenge duel; there is no doubt that she takes her own revenge. The filmmakers make Mexico seem like a sprawling wasteland of crime and death, and the Latino characters on screen are mostly criminals or stereotypes. Rambo films are rarely bastions of cultural integration, but in 2019 these broad stereotypes are offensive, outdated and completely irresponsible. Slaughter: while we see brown-skinned bad guys blown up, dismembered and tortured one by one, the film can't even bring itself to enjoy the spectacle. First Blood 5 clearly plays on Trump-era fears of an invasion of immigrants - there's a poignant shot of the border fence as Mexican traffickers gather to attack Rambo's home - but its climactic American massacre is a joyless fun ordeal.
A cold and nihilistic finale dedicated to the former chauvinist poster boy for America (Stallone). Blu-Ray.com: The essentials are taken into account and this gives Stallone another chance to enjoy the viewing in John Rambo's mad, sweaty, remorseful and vengeful world. LA Times:A surprisingly contemplative look at the film, a dark tale of a berserker who can't let go, a film that is itself more sombre and desperate than we might have thought. slant:The murderous nature of Rambo's madness tempers the script's ideology. New York Post:First Blood 5 is the most violent movie scene of the year. It's terrifying.
