The First Nigerian Gymnast Heading To The Olympics!
( Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Medalists)
Last week was very exciting as we saw the African Gymnastics Championship held in Cairo Egypt. The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has now made it possible for the continent of Africa to have four gymnasts to represent different countries in the region.
(Uche Eke Of Nigeria)
It was really nice to see different countries in Africa such as Cameroon, Libya, Algeria, Morocco, Egypt, South Africa and Nigeria fight for the spot for both male and female gymnasts. But I’m very particular about UCHE EKE who is now the first Nigeria gymnast to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games this summer.
Uche Eke scored 75.950 in the all around competition to secure his Olympic spot.
Egypt’s Omar Mohammed scored 81.750 to win the Gold medal and his teammate Ziad Khater scored 78.050 to win the silver medal but couldn’t secure an Olympic spot due to the one per country rule.
In the Women’s gymnastics competition two Egyptians won the Gold and silver scoring 50.200 and 48.400 respectively. But only the Gold medalist Zeina Ibrahim secured the Olympic spot due to the one per country rule.

Another person to secure a Olympic spot is South Africa’s Naveen Daries who scored 43.850 during the championships
Worthy to mention that Mandy Mohammed of Eygpt and Caitlin Rooskratz of South African have also qualified for the Olympic Games through the world championships held in Stuttgart in 2019.

The continent of African now has six(6) gymnasts going into the Olympics for the first time in history! This is so amazing to see for fans in Africa and around the world to see.
I wish them all the best in their Olympic journey and I pray they stay healthy and safe.
