Motorcycle chronicles: visiting the nursery

in #gardening6 years ago (edited)

There are many nurseries on the way to my mechanic's house and of course I had to visit at least one. This is more like a giant gardening supermarket than a nursery but I went there because I needed an unusual insecticide that isn't available nearby.

Of course, there was plenty of garden crap available and so I couldn't help myself. More nasty gnomes for your viewing pleasure:

Would a fruit fountain or pissing boy with a bad moulding-job that makes him look like he has a turd on his head make your life complete?

Well, I have muddy feet but I'm going places, you know

Would you like a bunch of winos at the bottom of your garden?

Aw! Bunny haz a broken ear

I only bought one plant, because I had limited space in my bag and wanted to get anything I bought home in one piece. This is a Mesemb of the genus Alionopsis and they have really pretty striped flowers. I wanted to buy a flowering one but the shape of those plants made it certain that the leaves would get broken on the way home so I chose a little one which has a bud that is visible at the lower centre. There will be a flower soon, I hope

I also bought perlite and a block of peat for my cactus seed sprouting venture, as inspired to do by @ewkaw and a bottle of Imidaclodaprid - a heavy-duty systemic insecticide, to get rid of some very persistent root mealiebugs that have been plaguing some of the aloes.

Packed the plant and small things into my backpack, strapped the perlite on the back and I was headed home. I managed to have a great day out and make something memorable out of a repair job for the bike. When I got home, disaster struck, but I will leave that problem for another day, hopefully when the problem is solved.

Ok now I am curious to read about what the disaster was. 🐓🐓

Oh yes... Sowing day coming up :)
The new baby looks very cool. Pretty pattern on the leaves.

Hope the disaster solves fast!

Yeah, looking forward to it.
Alionopsis are great, one of my favourites, together with Titanopsis
About the disaster, I'm scared: I seem to have lost my Steemit password :( :(

ops.. the main one? :(
Cant you open then on the Wallet with the other ones to copy save again?
Hmm... because to change passwords to new ones you still need the main, right?

Right. I was using my posting and active keys and yes, you need the main one. But I finally found it on Sunday and the world feels alright again. But I almost fucked up big time

Hahaha oh good :)
Better back up mine in few places...

I suggest that you do. And test those backups. I thought I had backups and when I went looking, they weren't there

You don't need more disaster. Good Luck!

Thank you. At least that one is over now

The flower is very beautiful!
I understand how hard it is not to buy something!
Yes, sculptures do not always like me, especially since some owners of kennels put them everywhere and in large numbers without thinking, even if they are not in the topic!
No need for problems!
Let it be all right!

Thank you, I am very happy to say that it is now right

reminds me of our compitition of the hideous statue

You know I can't help myself when it comes to photographing all this ugliness

Aloinopsis is gorgeous! <3 Excellent choice!

For mealybugs and red spider mites I'm using insecticide/acaricide based on permethrine: 'green' Biokill, that I can find in vet or agricultural pharmacy stores, even in DM. I do knot know if you can purchase something like that in your country, but i found it as best first aid for plants.

I do prefer those but I have a serious problem: I grow most of my succulents outside and what I noticed is that the ants are digging tunnels inside my plant pots. From there, they expose the plant roots and bring root mealiebugs in to suck on the roots and damage the plants. The only way I am going to be able to control that is with a systemic insecticide because I can't keep disturbing the roots or drenching the soil with insecticide.

I was very pleased to find that Alionopsis and of course I saw a Pachypodium Saundersii that I'm thinking about

P. saundersii is my wish too.

Oh, the ants and the bugs together in co-operation... yes that is a problem. You just have to kill them both or they will kill the plants. No other way. You can succeed, but have to be careful always, that they don't come back again.

I just have problems with one species of wasps, that are digging holes in every !!! pot, making small nests. They won't harm plants, but are making huge mess, throwing the soil around...

I went and got the P. Saundersii, I couldn't help myself.
Are the wasps the kind that hunt spiders?
