[EP166] - US demands social media in visa application.
Hi everyone!
Hope you're all well!
So this is the article that has me all freaked:
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-48486672
The US visa process is already really hard, super stressful and very expensive... and I'm extremely lucky because my particular visa isn't in high demand so I'm not competing with other people. Requiring social media accounts is going to add so much ambiguity to the process.
This bit in particular is worrisome:
"But now applicants will have to give up their account names on a list of social media platforms, and also volunteer the details of their accounts on any sites not listed."
Will people get rejected because they forgot to list a twitter account they haven't used for years, or will I get instantly rejected for not listing blockchain social media accounts... or rejected for having used blockchain social media accounts?
I can see why they'd consider going down this path, and it honestly, might be nothing... but it could also very well be everything.
I also barely use my traditional social media... is that going to raise red flags in itself?
What do you think? Do you like the idea of the US checking people's social media before approving their work or study visa applications?
Thanks for watching!
