Frustration of living in a small town

Everything and Nothing

My husband and I live in a small town in Spain, and most of the time, everything we need is within easy reach. The supermarkets, a weekly outdoor market, and some Chinese shops which sell every day items from dishes to notebooks. As my husband says, they have 'everything but nothing.' I guess it's the UK equivalent to Poundland except that they have all prices. And just like Poundland and other budget stores, the shelves are over-filled and there is so much stock that you don't know where to focus your gaze on. And worse of all, you find useless things that I can't believe some people buy.

When we need other or better options, we go to a neighbouring town. But since a town is a town, options are still limited. Recently, I have been looking for good quality dish rack, preferably stainless steel as our current one got rusty and easily collects limescale. Of course our previous one was from the Chinese store, so didn't want to repeat the mistake there. The best option was to get something online since there would be more choices. So I checked few websites and as I was comparing the quality, prices and reviews of the items, I realized how much easier this 'problem' could've been solved if I was back in London. Within 30 minutes of stepping out of the house, or even less, I would be holding a new dish rack! But this is the price one pays for choosing life in the country, and if this was some of the issues I would face once in a while, then bring it on! At least I no longer have to deal with the stress, congestion and pricey nature of city life.
