> Azalea flowers come in various types and colors but I'd like to talk about the red and pink ones that grow on Mt.Katsuragi in Nara.

Mt. Katsuragi

Azalea mountain

Mt.Katsuragi is a well known Azalea mountain that is located in Kongo-Ikoma-Kisen Quasi-National Park. Every May, many visitors come to see the beauty of millions of Azaleas blooming. It looks like a large red carpet is covering the mountain. This is a famous photo spot in Japan. If you like elegant natural places, you should visit.

We visited there on the weekend, and we didn't expect that there would be a lot of people at Tozanguchi Station. The best way to reach the top of Mt.Katsuragi is to get the ropeway, which takes just 6 minutes. But I had to wait in line for about 3 hours. OMG! We decided to hike to the top. We spent about 2 hours there. There are two popular hiking courses, called Kujira-no-taki course and Kitaone course. We selected the short course. It exhausted me because the route had some high slopes and I didn't wear hiking clothes.

Finally, we arrived at the top and then found a good place for a picnic. We had prepared some snacks, food, and drinks. I saw some other visitors brought food like me.

Wow! I wasn't tired anymore when I saw the magnificent Azalea scenery.

We took some selfies.

I recommend coming on a weekday to avoid the peak season crowds.

How To Get There

From Osaka: Take the Kintetsu Gose Line to Kintetsu Gose Station about an hour and then get the bus to Tozanguchi Station. Buses depart at gate 3 every 15-20 minutes.

WOW! Very gorgeous flowers covering the whole mountain! I totally agree with you, "it looks like a large red carpet", indeed. These create magnificent scenery, I also agree.

Ah! I can imagine why you weren't tired anymore and I assume that you would have great times with your friend while you were there.

Nice photos! Thanks so much for sharing. ;)
