The Rapture

The phones had all stopped working the communications system had gone down.
I found myself stranded and all alone when the darkness came to town.
It seemed to roll in like a black fog from the distance swallowing the light.
The temperature was dropping rapidly as the daylight became the night.

There was foreboding presence in the darkness that filled my heart with fear.
I didn't know what was coming in that darkness only I knew it would soon be here.
As the sunlight faded all around me it felt like my guardian was finally gone.
I could only watch as my shadow ran for cover as the darkness carried on.

This was more than just a darkness it's blackness chilled me to my core.
I had never been as frightened as this in my entire life before.
The darkness it seemed to caress me, it felt like the prying fingers of the blind.
But when the blackness started whispering, I thought I'd lose my mind.

I was too terrified to scream out, I was fighting just to catch a breath.
When I inhaled the darkness I could smell that scent of death.
Blind panic it washes over me, I was paralyzed with fear.
I wanted to break down and cry like a lost child but I could not shed a tear.

There was no time to be repentant it was too late to change my ways.
The apocalypse came out of nowhere was this the end of days.
That's when I heard the rapture it was truly almighty sound.
Its resonance was so resounding its reverberations shook the ground.

I literally couldn't stand it any longer I fell prostrate on floor.
My eyes closed tight to shield me from the blackness I couldn't bear it anymore.
I just lay there sobbing like a madman as I crawled along the ground.
The whispers had stopped their whispering and I couldn't hear a sound.

I opened one eye slowly scared, but I could see the light.
The sun was shining up in the sky and everything looked bright.
But I knew something big just happened this was not some waking dream.
Though everything looked back to normal everything wasn't how it seemed.

Millions of people had vanished in the blackness it was all over the midday news.
Was this really the rapture of God and what people did God choose.
Had I been rejected by the highest power or had I been truly saved.
Where had the darkness taken the millions, was it to a dark and early grave.

Or did they get a one way ticket to heaven like true believers believe they should.
Scientists couldn't find a plausible explanation and I didn't think they would.
But I will always remember those whispers in the darkness until the end of my days.
I realized there is a higher power out there and that alone made me change my ways.
