A very tired bumblebee
It was still alive, but barely. It's end of season and also end of life for most bumblebees now. The mites aren't doing it any good either.
I know it is nature's way and all that, but I can't help feeling a bit sad when I see this.

Bees can have such personality, up close like that. It's the natural cycle, though. And it's not just this little gal that's stressed out -- lots of bumblebee populations are declining. In North America, the Bumble Bee Watch is asking people to share their photos of bumble bees. Experts will identify them and will be watching for some of the rare bees or ones with declining populations. The great bee photographers of Steemit could be really great contributors to this project. Anyone interested can check out the Bumble Bee Watch: http://www.bumblebeewatch.org/
No, it's not the end! If you see a bee struggling, it's usually tired. If you can get a teaspoon of sugar water to her, you may get more fabulous pics of the proboscis as she drinks.
This one was beyond saving. Sugar nor warmth revived it. I tried.
Would you ride one, if it was the size of a horse?
Gladly, if it liked me enough to let me.
As long as it doesn't like you too much. Just be sure not to cover yourself in honey :)
It's a good thing bumblebees are not aggressive.
Awhhh, I feel so bad for the little guy.
amazing!
