Colour Challenge: Berries
These are called lingonberry aka cowberry (Vaccinium vitis-idaea), rode bosbes or vossenbes in Dutch. They are often found near heather.
They have flowers and fruit simultaneously for a long period. The berries are edible, and contain many vitamins, but they are very tart:

They are nowhere near as sweet as their cousins called bilberries or whortleberries (Vaccinium myrtillus), blauwe bosbes in Dutch, which, by the way, could very well be indigo (gasp):

These are much tastier than their American relatives, the northern highbush blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum), but also more difficult to grow and to pick, and the yield is lower, so they aren't grown commercially. When available in stores, they have been hand-picked in the forest.
Both photos were taken around the Aamsveen, a peat bog in the east of The Netherlands.
Wow! They bring back memories! I'm from the very north of Sweden where you can find endless quantities in the forest. We used to pick hundreds of liters and save for the winter. They are so tasty as jam. I often ate them for breakfast to the oats-porridge. Thank you for the reminder.
I love the color of the berries, I imagine they could make a good chutney or jam of some sort.
They do! When you eat them straight off the plant, though, your face will contract. "Tart" is an understatement, really.
Oh I know them all to well... Pucker Power!
beautiful post and beautiful model.. upvoted for you @ocrdu

Better than highbush blueberries, they must be good.
Thank you for the foraging post. Upvoted, and resteemed
Yum! When I ever get a chance to visit an IKEA store I usually buy some lingonberry sauce!! I bet you get to make your own!

I love those second ones but I hate to pick them! Back hurts like crazy and mosquitoes usually have a feast on human blood.
