And The Spurs Won't Let Off.
What a remarkable season Tottenham have had after trailing the top 4 spot for long, now they have successfully stayed there for 2 weeks and with the newfound form, who would say they can't stay there till the end of the season after Arsenal got dealt with by Brighton and Everton further shamed Manchester United.
Tottenham Hotspur put in a convincing display as they thrashed Aston Villa by 4-0, thanks to Son's Hat-trick and Kulusevski's goal. Harry Kane was not able to add to his goals tally but as usual, he put in a spirited display. I've always known him to be that all round player and he came alive to lift Tottenham to this point. He deserves the credit just as the introduction of Kulusevski this season too.
Son hasn't been consistent this season but this is one thing about having a player of quality. Their form might have dipped but the quality they possess cannot be doubted. It has been a mixed season for Son because in some games you wouldn't even find him and other times, he would turn up. Against Aston Villa, he didn't only turn up, he got 3 goals...3 well taken and executed goals before Kulusevski added his own.
Kulusevski is another revelation for Spurs this season and seeing how young he is, he would grow so well with this team if he decides to stay for the long haul. Tottenham are showing what consistency should be like even though I doubted they can get 4 games with a defeat or a draw but they proved me wrong. Now, there is no way back for Manchester United and Arsenal looks like the only team that can challenge them.
In sharp contrast, Aston Villa hasn't enjoyed so much fortune after beating Leeds United 3-0. They have lost 3 games before losing against Tottenham, making it 4 defeats back to back. They have lost against West Ham, Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers and now, Tottenham. They have been dropping off the table just when their fans started having that optimistic attitude about ending the season well. They haven't been winning as much as they should and it's a worrying moment for Steven Gerrard.
This is the beauty of winning as many games as you can and they seemed to have done that before now which is not making too many people call for the head of Steven Gerrard, yet. Steven Gerrard would have to arrest these defeats and bounce back because all the hard work he has done might be rubbished since this is when it counts the most; finishing the season well and strong.
Antonio Conte would be a happy man, no doubt if the season ends this way. He had a lot of shaky moments in the season but there is nothing more fulfilling than ending the season strong and happy with fulfilled objective and as it stands, getting into the top 4 is the objective and it's looking more like it.
Arsenal would still play a game but at best, they can only match the same tally as Tottenham who wields a better goal difference. Arsenal would have themselves to blame if Tottenham pipped them to it and the banter would never stop because they are both cross-town rivals. What an ending it would be when either Arsenal or Tottenham secure the top 4 spot.
