A Game Worth A Second Try - First Impressions from a seasoned CCG and TCG Player

in #steemmonsters6 years ago (edited)

Hi all, the name's Bones
This is an little story about my experience with Steem Monsters. I havebBeen playing CCG and TCG since I was a kid (20+ years). I bought some packs and played around for a bit. After a couple of days of getting no where and feeling like the game was trash, I gave it up.

A week later I was hospitalized, so i had plenty of spare time XD, I thought stuff it, I'll jump on the discord and try and find some tips. I was instantly welcomed, I had advice thrown at me left right and center. It gave me a better understanding. I was then lucky enough to get given some cards to help me upgrade a couple of cards. Wow, that simple tiny gesture of advice and a leg up made a monstrous difference to my experience, I was able to hold my own and then the game was able to unfold in front of me, and I was blown away.

My Battle log after getting help, before reaching out it was nothing but sad grey skulls.

So to sum up guys, give it a second shot, ask for help and you never know you might get hooked like I am now. The game has some really cool features, trade, market and a dynamic arena system where "rules" (which color, special abilities, and random conditions) are added to each game, it means that if you get lucky and your opponent is unlucky you can still match up against higher and more seasoned players and come out on top. It neutralizes the disheartening aspect of new games where you feel you skill is higher then you deck status, it means the game still sucks me in day after day to keep grinding arena.

This is bones signing out, I intend to keep writing these as the game unfolds in front of me. My next will be a discussion about my FIRST arena season rewards and some tips that help you get by as a f2p player in your first days.

Hey man,

Nice to hear you gave it a second shot. Like you say, it is a beautiful game, especially since it is all on the blockchain. It is fun and teases (my) brain a lot, plus tournaments are very well made. I do think you need to get past that first experience and find your way a bit in this continuously developing game. It is not for people who quit things easily, that's for sure. Enjoy!

So true. I honestly was put off at first with my initial experience as at surface level the game didn't look like it had much depth to me in mechanics and gameplay. But after getting some tips and reading up a bit I found the depth I was looking for and so much more.

Good to have you on Board. Steemmonsters journey to success just started and with the new automated Tournament system there will be plenty opportunity to battle in Tournaments and win awesome prizes.
I'm really excited about the game and its future development and it is the best gameplay on Blockchain out there right now.
Cu on the Battlefield!

Thanks so much man. I'm looking forward to getting involved in tournaments. I did my first today, got an unlucky match up (me 1500 vs 4500) I was just completely outclassed by card levels. But I am not discouraged it happens and I am looking forward to the next tournament I enter after receiving my first end of season rewards later today.

You figured it out this posting thing. Great News! :-D
And you almost made it to the Gold League. Nice one ;-)

I'm getting the hang of it and the game I think lol thanks for the help, sorry for my million and one questions (and everyone else who helped me out, a big thank to you too)

Oh and I'll make gold next season. It's my mission. Just need RNGesus to smile on me xD
